This dataset includes pesticides and pesticide transformation products in 15 tributaries of the Great Lakes. Pesticides were monitored using polar organic chemical integrative samplers (POCIS) to estimate concentrations in water following standard protocols (Alvarez, 2010) in June and July 2016. POCIS extracts were analyzed for 225 chemicals (USGS National Water Quality Laboratory schedule 5437, Sandstrom and others, 2016), for which 129 chemicals also have POCIS uptake rates, allowing calculations of time-weighted mean concentration over the approximately 30 day deployment (Alvarez and others, 2008). Collectively, there were 97 chemicals detected, and time-weighted mean concentrations could be calculated for 95...

These data are supplemental rip-rap gradation data (Wolman Pebble Count) in text (.txt) format, collected during 2014-2018 field seasons for select bridges in the United States. These data were collected using a measuring tape to determine riprap gradation (D15, D50, D85, and D100) on in-place riprap at bridge piers and/or abutments at various locations in each study reach. They supplement the Geospatial Data for Bridge Scour Countermeasure Assessments at Select Bridges in the United States, 2016–18. For high-resolution sites, traditional multibeam surveys were conducted using methods described in Huizinga (2015).

Soil data were collected from catchments of USGS edge-of-field (EOF) monitoring sites in Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) priority watersheds. As part of this release, soil data from 2016 through 2019 are provided from 14 sites spanning 5 Great Lake States (Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and New York). The data collected are from private farms representing a variety of agronomic systems, landscapes settings, soil types, and climate regimes. These data can be used to investigate relationships among microbial properties (e.g. soil microbial biomass, activity, diversity, and enzymes), general soil structure (e.g. bulk density, soil aggregate structure, soil water holding capacity, soil texture, and infiltration...

This data release presents a peak-flow frequency analysis for USGS 05494300 Fox River at Bloomfield, Iowa, based on methods described by Eash and others (2013) (https://pubs.usgs.gov/sir/2013/5086/). The methods are used to provide estimates of peak-flow quantiles for 50-, 20-, 10-, 4-, 2-, 1-, 0.5-, and 0.2-percent annual exceedance probabilities (AEPs). The results are presented in two text files (peak flow specification file: 05494300_ffa_2018.psf; WATSTORE file: 05494300_ffa_2018_WATSTORE.txt), and an excel spreadsheet (05494300_ffa_2018.xlsx).

Scouring of streambed material surrounding bridge structures is a leading cause of bridge failure in the United States. Damages resulting from bridge failure oftentimes lead to financial burdens and loss of life. To date, there has been no comprehensive evaluation of the current (2016) effectiveness of the guidance or overall long-term performance of bridge-scour countermeasures provided in the Federal Highway Administration, Hydraulic Engineering Circular No. 23, Bridge Scour and Stream Instability Countermeasures. To that end, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, obtained bathymetric, topographical, and other data at 14 of the surveyed sites across the United States...
Water velocities were measured in the Illinois and Des Plaines Rivers using a Teledyne Rio Grande 1200 kHz acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP). ADCP data were collected in reciprocal pairs along cross-sections and along approximately streamwise-oriented lines between cross sections at the following locations: (1) the confluence of the Fox River and the Illinois River near Ottawa, IL on November 4, 2015 (2) immediately downstream of Starved Rock Lock and Dam on the Illinois River near Utica, IL on May 22, 2015 (3) the Dresden Island Pool of the Des Plaines River on July 31 – August 1, 2013 (4) the Marseilles Pool of the Illinois River on May 14-15, 2013 and May 28, 2013 The WinRiverII ASCII output file and...

Concentrations and loads of total phosphorus, dissolved phosphorus, and suspended solids were estimated for three sites on the Lower Fox River for October 1988 through September 2021. The sites are the Fox River at Neenah-Menasha (040844105), Fox River at DePere (04085059), and Fox River at the Mouth (040851385). Data analysis was conducted with the Weighted Regressions on Time, Discharge, and Season (WRTDS) method. Daily loads were estimated using the WRTDS method with Kalman filtering. To determine changes in loads over this period, the annual load results were flow-normalized to standardize for the varying flow dynamics that occurred among years. The model archive contains the R code for running the WRTDS model,...
