Low-altitude (80 and 100 meters above ground level) digital images were collected at Sage Lot Pond in Waquoit, Massachusetts, two sites on the Mill River in Taunton, MA, Great Marsh in Barnstable, MA, the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve in Wells, ME, and on the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Quissett Campus in Woods Hole, MA using 3DR Solo unoccupied aircraft systems (UAS) during 2018. These images were collected to support science and data needs in wetland research, topographic mapping, and landcover detection at the U.S. Geological Survey Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center. The imagery and associated ground control points can be used to create Digital Elevation Models (DEMs), orthoimages,...

The dataset contains GPS survey data from two surveys conducted after a flow event on September 19, 2018, at the USGS streamgage 09487000 - Brawley Wash near Three Points, AZ. The first survey, on October 1, 2018, documents cross section geometry and high-water marks from the flow event in the reach downstream from the gage. The second survey, on January 31, 2019, documents additional high-water marks and provides ground control for a small unmanned aircraft system survey. The surveys were performed using Leica GS14 RTK GPS equipment, S/N base-2806898, S/N rover-2806883.

Data in this release record ground-surface positions obtained during post-disaster emergency response following the 2014 catastrophic Oso (SR 530) landslide, Snohomish County, Washington. Global Positioning System (GPS) data were collected using three USGS GPS-seismometer spider units deployed adjacent to (OSO1), upslope of (OSO2), and on (OSO3) the landslide (see image for locations) for about five weeks. Details of the post-disaster response as well as the spider units are described in the accompanying publication. Positions were determined in near real-time relative to a base-station GPS receiver (OSO0) located on stable ground less than 2 km from the landslide using static, differential GPS processing techniques....

Low-altitude (80 and 100 meters above ground level) digital images were taken over an area of the Plum Island Estuary and Parker River National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) in Massachusetts using 3DR Solo unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) on November 14, 2017 and March 28, 2019. These images were collected as part of an effort to document marsh stability over time and quantify sediment movement using UAS technology. Each UAS was equipped with either a Ricoh GRII digital camera for natural color photos, used to produce digital elevation models and ortho images, or a MicaSense RedEdge multi-spectral camera that captures five specific bands of the visible spectrum (blue, green, red, red edge, and near-infrared), which can be...

Continuous slope-area sensors are installed at four cross sections downstream from Flume 6 operated by the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) at the Walnut Gulch Experimental Watershed. The CSA reach was installed to test the CSA method and determine channel roughness using the known discharge measured by Flume 6. A flow event occurred on July 28, 2017. A GPS survey was conducted on August 2, 2017, to document the CSA pin elevations, cross section geometry at the CSA sensor locations, and high-water marks from the flow event.

The Great Plains Landscape Conservation Cooperative (GPLCC, https://www.fws.gov/science/catalog) is a partnership that provides applied science and decision support tools to assist natural resource managers conserve plants, fish and wildlife in the mid- and short-grass prairie of the southern Great Plains. It is part of a national network of public-private partnerships — known as Landscape Conservation Cooperatives (LCCs, http://www.fws.gov/science/shc/lcc.html) — that work collaboratively across jurisdictions and political boundaries to leverage resources and share science capacity. The Great Plains LCC identifies science priorities for the region and helps foster science that addresses these priorities to support...

River bathymetry surveys were collected in the summer and fall of 2016 along the lower Chetco River, Oregon. These surveys were collected using a real time kinematic global positioning system (RTK-GPS) and an echo sounder mounted on a motorboat and also behind a kayak at various cross sections and longitudinal profiles along the river. These datasets were collected in support of a funded effort investigating the cause of salt water intrusion that has taken place at the water intake facility for Harbor City, Oregon. The surveys were collected at sections approximately 0.4 river miles downstream to 0.8 river miles upstream of the Harbor City water intake structure and also at the city of Brookings water intake facility,...

This is a terrestrial LiDAR laser scanner dataset of an intermittent waterway named Laguna Creek near the community of Dennehotso, AZ collected on June 2, 2020. The reach scanned for this study is located at the bridge where State Route 160 crosses the waterway. The river channel on the upstream side of the bridge has experienced bank erosion over recent years. A bank stabilization project was implemented by the Arizona Department of Transportation in 2018. This scan is intended to capture the condition of the bank in 2020 and be used to measure any changes to the bank protection that has occurred since the installation.. A Leica MS-60 Multistation was used for the laser scanner data collection. Multiple scans were...

These are terrestrial laser scanner datasets collected in forested areas west of Flagstaff, Arizona in 2015 and 2016. For each of the two scanners, six treatment areas were scanned, with four of them overlapping one another (Figure 1). These data are composed of individual scans referenced to one another using reflective targets, and geolocated using differentially corrected GPS and RTK locations of scan locations (Figure 3). There were overall large differences in point density among the two scanners (Figure 2).

Bathymetric data were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in 2019 for approximately 2.2 square kilometers of the Nehalem Bay between the Highway 101 bridge and Nehalem Bay State Park (about 6.5 kilometers) near Wheeler, Oregon. The data were collected using a Trimble R8 Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver combined with a Seafloor Systems Hydrolite TM single-beam 200 kilohertz echosounder mounted to a motorized boat. GPS positions received corrections in real time from the Oregon Real-Time GNSS Network. Sound velocity profiles were recorded at 19 different locations evenly spaced throughout the survey area using an AML Oceanographic Base X2 100 meter sound velocity profiler in order to quantify...

The purpose of this field data collection was to test and compare the OceanInsight HDX Mini Spectrometer as an accessible alternative against the more expensive ASD Fieldspec for collecting ground-based hyperspectral reflectance profiles for landcover analysis. The data collection took place in Dog Head Marsh and South Cape Beach within the Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (WBNERR). The hyperspectral profiles were collected side-by-side with both field-spectrometers using comparable sensor collection settings for various ground cover samples. The terrain and vegetation type of these sample were described as well as surveyed using Real Time Kinematic Global Positioning System (RTK-GPS). This data...
