Low-altitude (30-120 meters above ground level) digital images of Town Neck Beach in Sandwich, Massachusetts, were obtained with a series of cameras mounted on small unmanned aerial systems (UAS, also known as a drone). Imagery was collected at close to low tide on five days to observe changes in beach and dune morphology. The images were geolocated by using the single-frequency geographic positioning system aboard the UAS. Ground control points (GCPs) were established by using temporary targets on the ground, which were located by using a real-time kinematic global navigation satellite system (RTK-GNSS) base station and rovers. The GCPs can be used as constraints during photogrammetric processing. Transect points...

This data release was produced by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the Bureau of Reclamation to present the results of monitoring efforts on the Yellowstone River fish bypass channel according to the specifications of the Lower Yellowstone Adaptive Management and Monitoring Plan. The fish bypass channel was constructed to provide upstream migrating fish with a route around a diversion dam. The objective of this study is to monitor the physical and hydraulic characteristics of the bypass channel, including flow split, minimum depth for the deepest continuous 30 cross sectional feet, and mean channel velocity, which are summarized in the data files in this data release. Physical and hydraulic...

The purpose of this field data collection was to test and compare the OceanInsight HDX Mini Spectrometer as an accessible alternative against the more expensive ASD Fieldspec for collecting ground-based hyperspectral reflectance profiles for landcover analysis. The data collection took place in Dog Head Marsh and South Cape Beach within the Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (WBNERR). The hyperspectral profiles were collected side-by-side with both field-spectrometers using comparable sensor collection settings for various ground cover samples. The terrain and vegetation type of these sample were described as well as surveyed using Real Time Kinematic Global Positioning System (RTK-GPS). This data...

Funding for this study was provided by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management and U.S. Geological Survey (Interagency Agreement no. M12PG00014). This study focuses on obtaining information about populations of Brown Pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis carolinensis) across the northern Gulf of Mexico. Study objectives are to (1) document dispersal, seasonal and annual movements, seasonal home range, and site fidelity of marked adult Brown Pelicans among nesting colonies from the Gulf coast, (2) compare contaminant exposure risk, contaminant levels, and health parameters in adult and nestling Brown Pelicans from various colony sites, and (3) document the relationship of local environmental, nest site characteristics and...

Collection of the unedited GPS track logs recorded during aerial breeding pair surveys using H2 harness. The H2 harness is a data collection device and associated wiring that records voice and position data for use in aerial bird surveys. The H2 replaces the computer program “Record” that was used prior to 2023. The H2 track file has different format than track files from program Record.

San Francisco baywide eelgrass layer with density attributes developed from data collected in 2003 and 2009.These data are intended to identify existing eelgrass beds and conditions under which eelgrass can occur throughout the Bay. In addition, the program is designed to identify current eelgrass stressors and opportunities for enhancement of eelgrass communities within the Estuary. The results of the Program will facilitate management of eelgrass habitat resources in the Bay by providing regulatory and resource agencies additional knowledge of the status, distribution, and environmental parameters of eelgrass within this highly dyna mic system.

Low-altitude digital images were taken over an area of the Potomac River in Shepherdstown, West Virginia using 3DR Solo unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) on October 21, 2019. The imagery was collected for the purpose of evaluating UAS assessment of river habitat data such as water depth, substrate type, and water clarity. Some photographs contain black and white targets used as ground control points (GCPs), which were surveyed by a field crew with a high-precision (GNSS) Global Navigation Satellite System and/or containing internal post processing kinematic (PPK) GPS system. This data release contains the csv file containing the latitude and longitude coordinates, in Universal Transverse Mercator Zone 18N referenced...

Low-altitude (80-100 meters above ground level) digital images were obtained from a camera mounted on a 3DR Solo quadcopter, a small unmanned aerial system (UAS), along the Lake Ontario shoreline in New York during July 2017. These data were collected to document and monitor effects of high lake levels, including shoreline erosion, inundation, and property damage in the vicinity of Sodus Bay, New York. This data release includes images tagged with locations determined from the UAS GPS; tables with updated estimates of camera positions and attitudes based on the photogrammetric reconstruction; tables listing locations of the base stations, ground control points, and transect points; geolocated, RGB-colored point...

Aerial track files (1997 to 2022) collected using the FWS software program “RECORD” (John I. Hodges, MBM-Alaska) running on laptop computers. Program RECORD was activated during the survey before arriving at the first transect and shut down after the last transect was completed, prior to engine shut-down. “Raw” track files recorded the flightpath of the aircraft including the area surveyed on each transect. GPS coordinates were captured every five seconds using a recreational grade receiver with an estimated positional accuracy of 5-10 meters after the software program was activated. These raw track files have not been quality checked, so they may contain missing or erroneous coordinates if the GPS signal was intermittent...
