The Southwest Regional Gap Analysis Project (SWReGAP) is an update of the Gap Analysis Program’s mapping and assessment of biodiversity for the five-state region encompassing Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah. It is a multi-institutional cooperative effort coordinated by the U.S. Geological Survey Gap Analysis Program. The primary objective of the update is to use a coordinated mapping approach to create detailed, seamless GIS maps of land cover, all native terrestrial vertebrate species, land stewardship, and management status, and to analyze this information to identify those biotic elements that are underrepresented on lands managed for their long term conservation or are “gaps.”
The Northwest Regional Gap Analysis Project (NWGAP) is an update of the Gap Analysis Program's mapping and assessment of biodiversity for the five-state region encompassing Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Montana, and Wyoming. It is a multi-institutional cooperative effort coordinated by the U.S. Geological Survey Gap Analysis Program. The primary objective of the update is to use a coordinated mapping approach to create detailed, seamless GIS maps of land cover, all native terrestrial vertebrate species, land stewardship, and management status, and to analyze this information to identify those biotic elements that are underrepresented on lands managed for their long term conservation, in other words, "gaps". This map package contains data from the USGS Protected Area Database (PAD-US) version 1.2. The original shapefile was clipped to the boundary of the Southern Rockies LCC. The data are displayed in two layers: one shows the owner name of the protected areas and the other shows the GAP status code (level of the protection) of the protected areas. To preview the data or view them without ArcMAP, there are two downloadable jpeg image files, showing screenshots of this map package with the owner name and status layers displayed. The data can also be viewed on the USGS Protected Areas Viewer. The Excel file "PAD-US Analysis" shows the composition of the SRLCC by owner and GAP status (% area of the SRLCC for each owner...
A map of actual vegetation cover of Oregon was developed as part of the Oregon Gap Analysis Program, a project of the Idaho Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, in cooperation with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Oregon Natural Heritage Program. The Idaho Geographic Information Center of the Idaho Department of Water Resources digitized the original maps and subsequent four edits using ARC/INFO GIS software. The digital data layer has been deposited at the Oregon GIS Service Center, Department of Energy, 625 Marion St., N.E., Salem, Oregon 97310. LANDSAT Multi-Spectral Scanner false-color infrared positive prints at a scale of 1:250,000 were visually photo-interpreted to identify boundaries...
Land-cover mapping efforts within the USGS Gap Analysis Program have traditionally been state-centered; each state having the responsibility of implementing a project design for the geographic area within their state boundaries. The Southwest Regional Gap Analysis Project (SWReGAP) was the first formal GAP project designed at a regional, multi-state scale. The project area comprises the southwestern states of Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah. The land-cover map/dataset was generated using regionally consistent geospatial data (Landsat ETM+ imagery (1999-2001) and DEM derivatives), similar field data collection protocols, a standardized land-cover legend, and a common modeling approach (decision tree...

The Gap Analysis Program (GAP) Land Cover Viewer displays data on the vegetation and land use patterns of the continental United States. The GAP Land Cover Data Version 2.2 provides detailed information on the vegetation of the United States using consistent satellite base data and classification systems. This allows data users to make conservation or land use planning decisions for the entire range of a habitat type across administrative boundaries. GAP Land Cover Data Version 2.2 combines ecological system data from previous GAP projects in the Southwest, Southeast, and Northwest United States with recently updated California data. For Alaska ,and areas of the continental United States, where ecological system-level...

Link to the current list of map services offered through the USGS GAP website. The list includes land cover data, protected area data and ancillary data (e.g. elevation and hydrography).
This data set is an ARC/INFO 90 meter land cover grid (raster file) covering the state of Montana, including a 10 km buffer around the state border as required by the National Gap Analysis Program for edge-matching with adjacent states. Parts of the following 33 Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) scenes are included: path 34, rows 27-29; path 35, rows 26-29; path 36, rows 27-29; path 37, rows 26-29; path 38, rows 26-29; path 39, rows 26-29; path 40, rows 26-29; path 41, rows 26-28; path 42, rows 26-27; and path 43, row 26. Land cover was classified in a two-step process: unsupervised classification to define patch boundaries and spectral classes, followed ...
