The Geologic Map Index of Alaska (Map Index) is an online, interactive web mapping application that provides access to an actively growing geographic index of geology-related maps of Alaska and adjacent areas. This online research tool provides the locations and outlines of most DGGS and U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) geologic and geophysical maps of Alaska in a single, interactive web map. It allows searches of the map database by geographic area of interest, keywords, themes, publishing agency, dates, and other criteria. The search results provide links to DGGS's comprehensive, multi-agency publications database, where users may view and download publications for free. No other geographic index of Alaska geologic...

This report provides detailed (1:63,360-scale) mapping of the Tanana A-1 and A-2 quadrangles (500 square miles; equivalent to eight 7.5-minute quadrangles). The area is part of the Manley Hot Springs-Tofty mining districts and adjacent to the Rampart mining district to the south of the Tanana B-1 Quadrangle. This report includes detailed bedrock, surficial, structural, and stratigraphic data. Based on the resulting geologic maps, field investigations, and laboratory materials analyses, the report also includes derivative maps of geologic construction materials and geologic hazards. The Tanana A-1 and A-2 Quadrangles and surrounding area comprise several isolated mountainous ridges in the western Yukon-Tanana Upland...

The engineering-geologic map is derived electronically, using Geographic Information System (GIS) software, from the surficial-geologic map of the second segment of the proposed natural gas pipeline corridor through the upper Tanana valley, a 12-mi-wide (19.3-km-wide) area that straddles the Alaska Highway through the upper Tanana River valley from the Robertson River eastward to near Tetlin Junction in the Tanacross Quadrangle (Reger and Hubbard, PIR 2009-6A). Surficial-geologic units were initially identified by interpretation of false-color ~1:65,000-scale infrared aerial photographs taken in July 1978, August 1980, and August 1981 and locally verified by field checking in 2007 and 2008. The map shows the distribution...

Geologic studies of the upper Chena River area were undertaken in 1983 as part of the Interior Mining District Evaluation Program, a series of projects designed to develop new information on known mineral districts in interior Alaska. During the three-year course of the program, geologists examined four districts that have contributed significantly to historical gold production in Alaska's Interior, Fairbanks, Livengood, Richardson, and upper Chena River.

Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) has conducted 1:63,360-scale geologic mapping of the Sagavanirktok B-1 Quadrangle (640 square kmequivalent to four 7.5 minute quadrangles). This mapping project reinterprets micropaleontologic correlations for 17 Sagavanirktok Quadrangle wells, and reprocesses data from the one publicly-available seismic line. Surface geologic mapping, subsurface-to-surface stratigraphic age control, and seismic framework are required to reliably decipher the complex geology of this key area of the Brooks Range. Outcrops within the Sagavanirktok B-1 Quadrangle are the closest surface expressions of Prudhoe Bay source and reservoir rocks. This study yields critical petroleum-related...

During 2009 the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) conducted reconnaissance interpretive mapping of permafrost in Alaska Highway Corridor Segment 3, a 12-mi-wide (19.3-km-wide) corridor that straddles the Alaska Highway through the Northway-Tanacross Lowland and the southern Yukon-Tanana Upland from Tetlin Junction to the Canada border. This work was an extension of permafrost mapping done in Alaska Highway Corridor Segment 1 from Delta Junction to Dot Lake in the Big Delta and Mt. Hayes Quadrangles during 2006-2007 and Alaska Highway Corridor Segment 2 from the Robertson River to Tetlin Junction in the Tanacross Quadrangles during 2008. Primarily, we inferred the extent of permafrost and...

The 1:63,360 Kavik River geologic map area consists of ~620 square miles and ties together previous DGGS mapping in the Sadlerochit and Shublik Mountains area of the western Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) on the east and the structurally complex foothills and mountain front near the Kemik gas accumulation on the west. The map area exposes a unique intersection of North Slope stratigraphy where all three major depositional megasequences are mappable in close association (Ellesmerian, Beaufortian, and Brookian).

During 2008-2010, the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys continued a program, begun in 2006, of reconnaissance mapping of surficial geology in the proposed natural-gas pipeline corridor through the upper Tanana River valley, a 12-mi-wide (19.3-km-wide) area that straddles the Alaska Highway through the upper Tanana River valley from the western boundaries of the Tanacross B-6 and C-6 Quadrangles near the mouth of the Robertson River eastward to the eastern boundaries of the Tanacross A-4 and B-4 Quadrangles near Tetlin Junction. Mapping during 2008-2010 in the Tanacross Quadrangle linked with mapping of surficial geology completed in the Big Delta and Mt. Hayes quadrangles in 2006-2007. Surficial...

Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) has conducted 1:63,360-scale geologic mapping of the Sagavanirktok B-1 Quadrangle (640 square kmequivalent to four 7.5 minute quadrangles). This geologic map was produced by merging a bedrock geologic map and a surficial geologic map of the Eagle A-2 Quadrangle. The Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) has conducted 1:63,360-scale geologic mapping of the Eagle A-1 Quadrangle. The area is part of the 100-year old Fortymile mining district and is located in eastern Alaska near the Alaska-Yukon border. This map illustrates potential near-surface sources of various geologic materials that may be useful for construction. Field observations indicate that each geologic unit (for example, stream alluvium) has a definite composition or range of composition. Therefore, the probable presence of materials is interpreted from the distribution of geologic units on the geologic map of this quadrangle. This map is generalized and is not intended to show exact locations...
