During the 2006 field season, the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys conducted remote mapping as part of the Kavik River STATEMAP project. This surficial-geologic mapping was conducted to provide additional detail to the STATEMAP comprehensive geologic mapping as well as to serve as a stand-alone map publication.

Between 1979 and 1982, the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) and the Geophysical Institute, University of Alaska Fairbanks, undertook an assessment of the states geothermal resources under a program jointly sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and the State of Alaska. During this period, reconnaissance investigations of more than 100 thermal spring sites and fumarole fields located in Alaska were conducted by DGGS.

Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) has conducted 1:63,360-scale geologic mapping of the Sagavanirktok B-1 Quadrangle (640 square kmequivalent to four 7.5 minute quadrangles). This mapping project reinterprets micropaleontologic correlations for 17 Sagavanirktok Quadrangle wells, and reprocesses data from the one publicly-available seismic line. Surface geologic mapping, subsurface-to-surface stratigraphic age control, and seismic framework are required to reliably decipher the complex geology of this key area of the Brooks Range. Outcrops within the Sagavanirktok B-1 Quadrangle are the closest surface expressions of Prudhoe Bay source and reservoir rocks. This study yields critical petroleum-related...

The Copper Mountain quadrangle is centered just north of the southwest-facing escarpment on the southwest side of the crest of the Sierra Ancha (see Figure 1). Elevations range from about 4200 feet in the southwest corner of the map to 6676 feet at Copper Mountain. The lower elevations in the southwest part of the map contain a mix of open Pinyon-Juniper forest and grassland and thick stands of oak mostly along the drainages. The Pinyon-Juniper gives way higher up to larger oak woodlands. The higher elevations up on the plateau are a mix of thick tangles of oak and manzanita and Ponderosa Pine conifer forest. The proliferation of dense brush in the higher elevations makes travel and mapping very difficult. This...

The Fort Morgan 7.5' quadrangle is located on the semiarid plains of northeastern Colorado, along the South Platte River corridor where the river has incised into Upper Cretaceous Pierre Shale. The Pierre Shale is largely covered by surficial deposits that formed from alluvial, eolian, and hillslope processes operating in concert with environmental changes from the late Pliocene to the present. The South Platte River, originating high in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, has played a major role in shaping surficial geology in the map area, which is several tens of kilometers downstream from where headwater tributaries join the river. Recurrent glaciation (and deglaciation) of basin headwaters has affected river discharge...

The Ninetysix Hills of Pinal County, Arizona, consist of a series of low hills and pediment situated about half way between the towns of Florence and Catalina, and are about 70 km ( 45 mi.) north of Tucson (see figure 1). The low spine of hills is underlain by at least four separate granitic plutons. The older pluton, a coarse-grained K-feldspar megacrystic granite exposed in the south, is intruded by a medium-grained granite to granodiorite. Both of these units are locally foliated, but have mineralogic and textural characteristics that suggest they do not belong to the regional suite of 1.65 to 1. 7 Ga-old granites, but are younger. The quartz-porphyritic Teacup granodiorite (Krieger, 1974a, 1974b, Bradfish, 1979)...

The study area includes the southern Roskruge Mountains and a small area of the northernmost Coyote Mountains in Pima County, southeast Arizona (Figure 1). Elevations in the area range between 2500' and 4300'. The area lies within the sonoran desert with large areas of relatively open desert punctuated by thick brushy zones along major washes. Bedrock geology was mapped by Charles Ferguson and Wyatt Gilbert during the winter and spring of 1999-2000, and the Quaternary geology was mapped by Thomas Biggs and Phil Pearthree in the spring and summer of 2000. Some areas within the boundary of the Tohono O'Odham Nation were mapped using remote techniques. Geologic Map of the Southern Roskruge Mountains (the San Pedro...

The Systematic mapping of lava flow units in the Tharsis region has been compiled into a series of 16 maps at 1:2,000,000 scale. This work provides information on the sources and areal extent of the lava flows, on their eruptive sequences and relative ages, and on relations between the flows and geologic structure in the largest, most active tectonic and volcanic province on Mars. Some of the maps were made from controlled Viking photomosaics published as quarter quadrangles in the Atlas of Mars Topographic Series (U.S. Geological Survey, 1979) and tied to the Viking control net. Where these photomosaics were not available, larger scale catalog photomosaics tied to the Mariner 9 control net were used. These maps...

The Purbach quadrangle is in the south central part of the lunar near side and includes the following four distinct topographic geologic provinces: 1) rugged and densely cratered highlands extending north south through the central part of the area locally dissected by large troughs (sculpture) of Imbrium age (Gilbert, 1893; Hartmann, 1963) 2) subdued terrain in the east where both isolated and interconnected topographic lows are partly filled with plains material 3) terra and plains materials of low relief in the southwest which obscure the large ancient crater Deslandres; 4) basalt flows of Mare Numbium which embay and overlap the adjacent terrae along the west central and northwestern parts of the quadrangle.
This 1:250,000-scale geologic map is one of a series prepared largely from photographs transmitted by Ranger IX (reproduced in a report by Jet Propulsion Lab., 1966). It depicts the geology of the crater Alphonsus (in which Ranger IX impacted) and environs. The primary objective of the mapping was to apply extent lunar mapping techniques used on relatively small scale telescopic photographs to the larger scale Ranger photographs, in preparation for extensive analysis of lunar orbiter photography in support of the apollo program. An additional objective was to shed more light on the formation of Alphonsus and its associated features. The map outlines rock units that are inferred from surface features and characteristics,...
