In the distant skyline, right, is San Francisco Mountain and other volcanoes in the volcanic field south of the Grand Canyon. The plateau surface is Permian limestone (Kaibab Limestone); the canyon walls seen in this view are mostly the Permian, Pennsylvanian, and Mississippian Formation. Altitude of the rim here is about 8,200 feet; bottom of the canyon (out of sight) is below 3,000 feet. San Francisco Mountain, about 70 miles away, is above 12,600 feet. Grand Canyon National Park. Album caption and index card: Effects of the flood and mudflow of December 1966 in Dragon Creek. Channel of Dragon Creek looking downstream in the main part of the Hindu Amphitheater toward the mescal pit, where the men are standing. Muddy debris deposited by the mudflow in left foreground extends downward to within 3 ft (0.9 m) of the present streambed. Cutting by the mudflow and streamflow stages of the flood formed a benchlike feature on the left bank 6-7 ft (1.8-2.1 m) above the streambed.
