These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release. Polygons delineate generalized areas in and around Great Basin National Park where surface-water resources likely or potentially are susceptible to groundwater withdrawals in adjacent valleys.

This metadata is for the vegetation and land-use geo-spatial database for Great Basin National Park (GRBA), Nevada and surrounding areas. This project is authorized as part of the USGS/NPS Vegetation Inventory Program. The program is being administered by the National Park Service's (NPS) Inventory and Monitoring Program in conjunction with the Biological Resources Division (BRD) of the United States Geological Survey (USGS). This inventory and mapping effort was performed by Cogan Technology Inc. (CTI), NatureServe, and Logan Simpson Design, Inc. under contract to the Mojave Desert Inventory and Monitoring Network (MOJN) of the National Park Service.

This dataset includes the magnetotelluric (MT) sounding data collected in 2003 along a north-south profile west of Wendover, Nevada. It is important to know whether major mining districts in the Northern Nevada Gold Province are underlain by rocks of the Archean Wyoming craton, which are known to contain orogenic gold deposits, or by accreted rocks of the Paleoproterozoic Mojave province. It is also important to know the location and orientation of the Archean/Proterozoic suture zone between these provinces as well as major basement structures within these terranes because they may influence subsequent patterns of sedimentation, deformation, magmatism, and hydrothermal activity. This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release consists of data from two tracer investigations in the Snake Creek drainage of Great Basin National Park, White Pine County, Nevada. The first investigation, occurring from April to September 2019, involved injecting a fluorescein dye tracer below a diversion point in Snake Creek and monitoring 13 sites in the Snake Creek and neighboring Big Wash drainages for presence of the dye.
