The NOAA Hypoxia Watch project provides near-real-time, web-based maps of dissolved oxygen near the sea floor over the Texas-Louisiana continental shelf during a period that extends from mid-June to mid-July. These data include species occurrence records of fish in oceans within 1000 kilometers of the United States shoreline. This dataset is a subset of the OBIS-USA dataset as of December 2, 2014 and includes records of the taxonomic groups of Actinopterygii, Chondrichthyes, Myxini, Osteichthyes, and Petromyzontida. After initial taxonomic queries, the remaining data were further queried to retain only samples within 1000 kilometers of the U.S. shoreline. Spatial queries were then used to remove samples overlaying land masses. Data are provided in a geodatabase format, as well as a comma seperated values format. This dataset is extracted from PAD-US 1.1 (CBI Edition), and the original metadata has been included here. These protected areas were roughly identified by the Conservation Biology Institute as being the "Secondarily" threatened by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The probability of being affected was determined using the University of South Florida's Deepwater Horizon oil spill trajectory forecast from the WFS ROMS numerical model, as projected for 06/03/2010 at 00h UTC (http://ocg6.marine.usf.edu/~liu/oil_spill_ensemble_forecast.html). A 75,000 x 75,000 meter grid covering the Gulf of Mexico, created to identify possible areas of landfall of oil from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Using oil spill trajectories produced by the Ocean Circulation Group and the Optical Oceanography Laboratory at the College of Marine Science, University of South Florida, and protected areas data catalogued in PAD-US (CBI Edition) , we provide a preliminary attempt to identify ecological resources that may be affected by the spill. Winter climate change has the potential to have a large impact on coastal wetlands in the southeastern U.S. Warmer winter temperatures and reductions in the intensity of freeze events would likely lead to mangrove forest range expansion and salt marsh displacement in parts of the U.S. Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic coast. Coastwide vegetation surveys have been conducted multiple times over the past 50 years (e.g., Chabreck and Linscombe 1968, 1978, 1988, 1997, 2001, and 2013) by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) in support of coastal management activities. The last survey was conducted in 2013 and was funded by the Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) as a part of the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection, and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) monitoring program. This product is a satellite-based habitat map time series from 2012 to 2019 for the Caminada Headland reach of the Louisiana Gulf shoreline to facilitate monitoring of the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) Caminada Headland Beach and Dune Restoration Incr2 project area (BA-0143). The project restored 489 acres of beach and dune habitat along more than seven miles of Caminada Headland in Jefferson and Lafourche Parishes in Louisiana through the direct placement of about 5.4 million cubic yards of sandy substrate from Ship Shoal. Climate change is altering the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events. Quantifying ecosystem responses to extreme events at the landscape scale is critical for understanding and responding to climate-driven change but is constrained by limited data availability. Here, we integrated remote sensing with ground-based observations to quantify landscape-scale vegetation damage from an extreme climatic event. The depth to top of the Wilcox Group is contoured from location and top information derived from the Petroleum Information (PI) Wells database. The depth to Wilcox map represents the tops found in the database with the addition of surface geology from USGS maps and field data. The veracity of the PI Wells database is being checked by comparison to published cross sections and geologic maps. Interpretation of the depth to Wilcox and apparent thickness maps along with published measured sections and cross sections indicates that portions of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama contain broad areas where a 20 to 40 foot net thickness of lignite and coal occur at shallow depths.
