U. S. Geological Survey (USGS) scientists completed a data collection campaign from the 25th of April to the 10th of June in 2022, using various methods to record geomorphic and habitat indicators throughout 30 streams on the Delmarva Peninsula. Field methods included GNSS surveys, gravelometer-based pebble count readings, visual assessments, and riparian analyses. This metadata record contains all raw observations from the campaign as well as numerous summary metrics to be used in model development. Those "model-ready" data can be found in Delmarva_Model_Deliverable.csv in the parent item, while the two child items containing raw in-channel observations and raw survey data. Attached to this release is a data dictionary...

Habitat Condition for Imperiled Species is one of a suite of products from the Nature’s Network project (naturesnetwork.org). Nature’s Network is a collaborative effort to identify shared priorities for conservation in the Northeast, considering the value of fish and wildlife species and the natural areas they inhabit. This product represents a regional network of habitats critical for sustaining populations of imperiled species, currently based on over 600 Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN). A number of additional datasets that augment or complement Habitat Condition for Imperiled Species, including Core Habitat for Imperiled Species, are also available in the Nature’s Network gallery. A detailed technical...

U. S. Geological Survey (USGS) scientists completed a stream surveying campaign from the 25th of April to the 10th of June in 2022 at 100m reaches throughout 30 streams on the Delmarva Peninsula. The goal was to collect three cross sections, water surface elevation at the top and bottom of each reach, and thalweg point data at each study location to use the geomorphological surveys alongside habitat information. Together, these two sources of data can be used to create a habitat assessment of Delmarva Peninsula streams. Any use of trade, firm, or product names is for descriptive purposes only and does not imply endorsement by the U.S. Government.

The loggerhead sea turtle, found in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans, is divided into nine distinct populations—five of which are federally endangered and four of which are federally threatened. Unfortunately, climate change may be putting the species at further risk. Sea-level rise, increased storm frequency, and changes in temperature and humidity could reduce the suitability of habitat used by loggerheads and other endangered sea turtles for nesting and feeding. This project assessed the vulnerability of key sea turtle nesting beaches to climate change in the Southeast. Researchers examined previous records of sea turtle nesting locations in the Southeast to identify the characteristics of these beaches,...

Core Habitat for Imperiled Species is one of a suite of products from the Nature’s Network project (naturesnetwork.org). Nature’s Network is a collaborative effort to identify shared priorities for conservation in the Northeast, considering the value of fish and wildlife species and the natural areas they inhabit. This product represents a regional network of the most intact of habitats estimated to be most important for sustaining populations of imperiled species, currently based on over 600 Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN).A number of additional datasets that augment or complement Core Habitat for Imperiled Species, including Habitat Condition for Imperiled Species (the more extensive dataset from...
