Description: The attached .zip files contain a collection of forty-one sepia tone mounted photographs and seven black and white copy negatives. These photographs were taken by Charles W. Hayes during his 1891 expedition to Alaska. Fourteen of these photographs were published in the book, Schwatka's last search: the New York Ledger Expedition through unknown Alaska and British America. Including the Journal / Charles Willard Hayes Univ. of Alaska Press 1996 Charles Willard Hayes began his employment with the USGS in 1887. In 1891, Hayes joined Lieutenant Frederick Schwatka's Alaska expediton (The New York Ledger Expedition) as a geologist. Photograph number hcw00018 is highlighted. The handwritten information...
