There have been increasing concerns regarding the decline in moose numbers along the southern range of their North American distribution. This has prompted varied research efforts to determine the factors contributing to the reduced local populations. Although heat stress from increasing temperatures could be a potential factor for declining populations in Minnesota, temperature increases have also occurred in New York, Massachusetts, and Connecticut where populations have been expanding in recent years. This map layer contains the shallowest principal aquifers of the conterminous United States, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, portrayed as polygons. The map layer was developed as part of the effort to produce the maps published at 1:2,500,000 in the printed series "Ground Water Atlas of the United States". The published maps contain base and cultural features not included in these data. This is a replacement for the July 1998 map layer called Principal Aquifers of the 48 Conterminous United States.

The threat posed by infectious diseases are a major concern for global public health and the role of migratory birds in pathogen transmission is increasingly under scrutiny. Enteric viral pathogen surveillance in migratory birds is a critical component of outbreak preparedness. The shedding of such pathogens through excrement into bodies of water located at migratory stop-over sites and breeding and wintering grounds creates conditions to potentially infect millions of birds annually. This data release documents time-series analyses of aqueous-chemistry data from public-supply wells (PSWs) and associated potential explanatory factors to characterize responses of groundwater quality to drought and recovery periods in California’s San Joaquin Valley (SJV) during 2000-2022. Annual median nitrate values were computed for PSWs throughout the SJV during the period of study. Median annual nitrate values were calculated at all PSWs with available data in the SJV, resulting in a total of 698 PSWs with complete annual records after single-year linear gap imputation. We conducted two literature searches to help guide the development of a conceptual model of a barrier island and shoreline system in response to cumulative effects of restoration projects. The first search targeted examples of cumulative effects assessments and/or existing conceptual models from which a system-specific conceptual model can be built. The second search targeted the identification of barrier island and shoreline environmental system components, drivers and stressors.
