Using ~ 1 m resolution imagery collected between 2000 and 2010, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Civil Applications Center (NCAC) monitored dramatic changes at East Timbalier Island, a Gulf of Mexico barrier island located on the west side of the Mississippi River Delta (Thomas et. al, 2011). The imagery was collected by US National Imagery Systems (USNIS) and archived at the USGS Global Fiducials Library (GFL). New research expands this study both retrospectively and prospectively using declassified imagery collected in 1962 and 1972; Landsat imagery collected since 1972; aerial photography collected since 1953; and 1991-2020 GFL imagery.

This data release consists of high quality georeferenced orthophoto mosaics of a 160 kilometer long portion of the Columbia River between Portland and The Dalles, Oregon created from aerial photographs collected in 1935 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The dataset comprises three GeoTIFF files, each covering about 40-60 kilometers. This metadata document summarizes the entire data release. See attached metadata records for information on the individual mosaics.
In 1926, twenty-four companies from Indiana's Monroe and Lawrence counties joined their limestone quarrying and milling businesses to form the Indiana Limestone Company, or ILCO, that is still in operation today. Indiana Limestone refers to the building-stone facies of the Salem Limestone, later trademarked as “The Nation’s Building Stone,” and has been used extensively in building projects across the United States. Deposited approximately 340–335 million years ago in the middle Mississippian Period, it is exceptionally pure, well sorted, and occurs in thick beds that outcrop at or near the surface in Owen, Monroe, and Lawrence counties making the area especially well suited for profitable quarrying.
