This dataset includes swell-filtered, high-resolution seismic-reflection data jointly collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and Oregon State University in 2010, between Shelter Cove and Fort Bragg in northern California.
This data set consists of polylines representing groundwater-level altitude contours, 1982, for middle Humboldt River basin, north-central Nevada as published on plate 2, figure 3 in the U.S. Geological Survey Water-Resources Investigations Report 98-4209 titled "Hydrogeologic framework and ground-water levels, 1982 and 1996, middle Humboldt River basin, north-central Nevada," 1999. A subset of the contours were published as part of a larger data set representing water-table contours for Nevada (Buto and others, 2006). The remaining contours have been added to complete this data set. This data release is currently being revised and is temporarily unavailable. Please contact rhkent@usgs.gov with any immediate requests. The U.S. Geological Survey Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment-Priority Basin Project (USGS GAMA-PBP) collected samples to be analyzed for per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from domestic and public supply wells from May 2019 to September 2020. The datasets presented here include identification of the 28 PFAS constituents monitored by the project, Identification and brief characterization of the 211 GAMA-PBP wells for which samples were analyzed for PFAS during the study period, and analytical results for those groundwater samples, along with results for quality...

This data release includes monitoring data collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Humboldt Bay Water Quality and Salt Marsh Monitoring Project. The datasets include continuous water levels collected at a 6-minute timestep collected in two study marshes (Mad River and Hookton). Surface deposition, elevation changes and carbon storage (in marsh edge environments) measured in five USGS study marshes (Mad River, Manila, Jacoby, White and Hookton). The monitoring data presented in this data release represent fundamental datasets needed to manage blue carbon stocks, assess marsh vulnerability, inform SLR adaptation planning, and build coastal resiliency to climate change in Humboldt Bay, CA Additional documentaton...
The Coastal Storm Modeling System (CoSMoS) makes detailed predictions (meter-scale) over large geographic scales (100s of kilometers) of storm-induced coastal flooding and erosion for both current and future sea-level rise (SLR) scenarios. CoSMoS 3.2 for Northern California shows projections for future climate scenarios (sea-level rise and storms) to provide emergency responders and coastal planners with critical storm-hazards information that can be used to increase public safety, mitigate physical damages, and more effectively manage and allocate resources within complex coastal settings. Data for Northern California covers the coastline from Golden Gate Bridge to the California-Oregon state border.

A mineral resource assessment for tungsten, a critical mineral commodity (see 'Related External Resources' section below) for the United States, was carried out by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) for a portion of the Great Basin region, in western Nevada and eastern California, between latitudes 36N and 42N and longitudes 116W and 120W. This study (Lederer and others, in review) integrates data from several sources, including geologic, geochemical, geophysical, remote sensing, watershed analysis, and mining with recently developed grade and tonnage models, expert estimates, and software tools and analyses to generate probabilistic estimates of undiscovered tungsten skarn resources. The assessment was conducted...

Elevation change and surface deposition are important drivers of salt marsh ecological processes and represent two of the fundamental variables for determining marsh resilience to sea-level rise. Surface Elevation Tables with Marker Horizons (SET-MH) were used to measure plot-scale elevation change (SETs) and surface deposition (MHs) in five USGS study marshes located in Humboldt Bay, CA. SET-MHs were installed in 2014 (Mad River marsh and Manila marsh) and in 2015 (Jacoby marsh, White marsh, and Hookton marsh) and were measured during quarterly site visits. The SET-MH network includes two SETs and six MHs in each of the five study marshes. Measuring elevation change at the two SETs in each study marsh involves...

The USGS and Newmont Mining Corp. surveyed 51 cross sections to determine hydraulic characteristics throughout 12 model reaches. The accuracy of the surveyed cross sections is believed to be +/- 0.5 ft. Field surveys included measuring the channel cross section up to the approximate altitude of the highest flood and includes auxiliary channels. Surveyed cross sections generally were at representative locations about every 3 miles along the Humboldt River channel. In areas where long overbank sections occurred, supplemental altitudes were determined from topographic maps in order to extend surveyed parts of cross sections so that each section represented the full width of the floodplain. In this dataset there is...
Water levels are an important driver of salt marsh processes. In 2016, pressure-transducing data loggers (LT Edge Model 3001, Solinst and Hobo Model U-20-001-01-Ti) and barometric-pressure loggers (Model 3001, Solinst) were deployed in two USGS study marshes (Mad River marsh and Hookton marsh) located in Humboldt Bay, CA. The loggers were placed as low in the tide frame as possible, while still maintaining access to the sensors at low tide. Sensors captured high tide water levels; but sensor elevation was too high to capture low tide water levels. Continuous measurements were collected on a 6-minute timestep. Sensor elevations were surveyed using Real-Time Kinematic GPS (Leica GS-15, Leica Geosystems, Norcross,...
The California Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment Program Priority Basin Project (GAMA-PBP) analyzed for per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in groundwater samples collected from domestic and public drinking water supply wells in California. GAMA-PBP is a cooperative program between the U.S. Geological Survey and the California State Water Resources Control Board. This data release contains data for samples collected from May 2019 through December 2022 and includes revisions to earlier data (Kent, 2021) that were either screened or removed after analysis of quality-control data. Please see the quality-control and other descriptions of the data in the processing steps in the xml file. Subsequent...
Between October 12, 2019 and December 13, 2019, the U.S. Geological Survey deployed 30 nodal seismometers in Humboldt county CA for the purpose of recording seismicity in the subducting Gorda plate. 20 instruments were deployed at the McBride ranch, around NCSN station KCT, and 10 were deployed at the Bureau of Land Management’s Lost Coast Headlands property. The nodes were replaced in mid-November after one month of recording due to battery life.
This digital dataset contains the monthly inflows and diversions to the surface-water network in the updated Central Valley Hydrologic Model (CVHM2) for water years 1922-2019. The surface-water network simulates the Central Valley’s complex conveyance network through the Streamflow Routing Package (SFR2) and the Farm-Process (FMP4) at 65 inflow locations with 271 stream segments and 13 bifurcations, and 571 diversion locations providing 564 of semi-routed diversions and 7 non-routed diversions. The semi-routed deliveries are routed through the simulated surface-water network, while the non-routed delivery is simulated through linkages between the SFR2 and FMP4 packages in MODFLOW-OWHM. Surface water data for CVHM2...
