Drainage water management, also known as controlled drainage, is the practice of using a water table control structure at the end of the subsurface drain pipe to reduce subsurface drainage, and thereby nitrate losses. Methods to quantify the potential effects of drainage water management for entire watersheds are needed to evaluate the impacts of large-scale adoption. A distributed modeling approach was developed to apply the field-scale DRAINMOD model at the watershed scale, and used to assess the impact of drainage water management on nitrate load from an intensively subsurface drained agricultural watershed in west central Indiana. The watershed was divided into 6460 grid cells for which drain spacing, soil parent...

Located in the northern tropical Pacific Ocean, Majuro is the capital of the Republic of the Marshall Islands. Majuro Atoll consists of a large, narrow landmass and a set of smaller perimeter islands surrounding a lagoon that is over 100 square miles in size. The waters surrounding the Majuro Atoll land areas are relatively shallow with poorly mapped bathymetry. However, the Pacific Ocean on the exterior of the coral atoll and the lagoon within its interior consist of deep bathymetry with steep slopes. The highest elevation of the Majuro Atoll is estimated at only 3-meters above sea level, which is the island community of Laura located on the western part of the atoll. At the eastern edge of the atoll lies the capital...

(Hyperlink to Official Landing Page for Geospatial Fabric products) The Geospatial Fabric provides a consistent, documented, and topologically connected set of spatial features that create an abstracted stream/basin network of features useful for hydrologic modeling. The GIS vector features contained in this Geospatial Fabric (GF) data set cover the lower 48 U.S. states, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. Four GIS feature classes are provided for each Region: 1) the Region outline ("one"), 2) Points of Interest ("POIs"), 3) a routing network ("nsegment"), and 4) Hydrologic Response Units ("nhru"). A graphic showing the boundaries for all Regions is provided at http://dx.doi.org/doi:10.5066/F7542KMD. These Regions are identical...

Project involves analyzing datasets using two measures: Spatial similarity of the distributed precipitation and temperature fields of the study datasets Implications on hydrologic modeling We will then provide guidance on the choice of datasets for statistical downscaling of GCM outputs used in different types of scale-dependent planning assessments. We will evaluate these differences from a hydrological standpoint at specific Reclamation basins: Animas at Durango, Colorado; Snake at Heise, Idaho; Sacramento at Redding, California; Salt at Chrysotile, Arizona; Yellowstone River at Billings, Montana; and Colorado River at Lees Ferry Utah and Arizona. The analysis will indicate whether the choice of forcing a...
This is the Original Product Resolution (OPR) Digital Elevation Model (DEM)of a topobathymetric model as provided to the USGS National Geospatial Technical Operations Center (NGTOC). This DEM is delivered in the original resolution, with the original spatial reference as it was provided to the NGTOC. All elevation units have been converted to meters.
The files contained on this site are for use with the National Hydrologic Model (NHM) for the Precipitation Runoff Modeling System (PRMS), developed by the Modeling of Watershed Systems (MoWS) group of the U.S. Geological Survey. PRMS is a daily deterministic watershed-scale model (Markstrom and others, 2015), and can be used at a conterminous United States (CONUS) extent with on the Geospatial Fabric (Viger and Bock, 2014) in the NHM infrastructure (Regan and others, 2018). The NHM-PRMS is the sum of three parts: the source code, parameter values, geospatial fabric (Regan and others, in press). These components are used to generate the simlation output files. Child items of this page include all or parts of these...

To support the modeling of storm-induced flooding, the USGS Coastal National Elevation Database (CoNED) Applications Project has created an integrated 1-meter topobathymetric digital elevation model (TBDEM) for the Central California Coast. High-resolution coastal elevation data is required to identify flood, hurricane, and sea-level rise inundation hazard zones and other earth science applications, such as the development of sediment transport and storm surge models. The new TBDEM consists of the best available multi-source topographic and bathymetric elevation data for the onshore and offshore areas in Central California. The Central California TBDEM integrates 70 different topographic and bathymetric data sources...

Note: NED data can be accessed through The National Map (USGS). Instructions are available on The National Map Viewer homepage. The National Elevation Dataset (NED) is the primary elevation data product produced and distributed by the USGS. The NED provides the best available public domain raster elevation data of the conterminous United States, Alaska, Hawaii, and territorial islands in a seamless format. The NED is derived from diverse source data, processed to a common coordinate system and unit of vertical measure. All NED data are distributed in geographic coordinates in units of decimal degrees, and in conformance with the North American Datum of 1983 (NAD 83). All elevation values are provided in units of...

Our mission is to provide , timely, reliable, impartial scientific information to our local, state, tribal, and federal partners so they can efficiently manage the water resources within their jurisdictions. Our data and research also help to protect the citizens of Idaho against floods, droughts, and other natural hydrologic hazards. Our science focuses on four basic areas of data collection and research: Surface water resources including rivers, lakes, and reservoirs Groundwater resources, both cold water and geothermal Water quality Water use and availability
This article describes the development of a calibrated hydrologic model for the Blue River watershed (867 km2) in Summit County, Colorado. This watershed provides drinking water to over a third of Colorado?s population. However, more research on model calibration and development for small mountain watersheds is needed. This work required integration of subsurface and surface hydrology using GIS data, and included aspects unique to mountain watersheds such as snow hydrology, high ground-water gradients, and large differences in climate between the headwaters and outlet. Given the importance of this particular watershed as a major urban drinking-water source, the rapid development occurring in small mountain watersheds,...
