A three-dimensional groundwater flow model, MODFLOW 6, was developed to provide a better understanding of the hydrogeology of the Harney Basin, southeastern Oregon. The model was used to investigate the historical groundwater-level decline and storage loss associated with anthropogenic groundwater demands. The model was calibrated to 1930 through 2018 conditions. This USGS data release contains all of the input and output files for the simulation described in the associated model documentation report (https://doi.org/10.3133/sir20241518)

Green and others (2021) developed a gradient boosted regression tree model to predict the mean groundwater age, or travel time, for shallow wells across a portion of the Great Lakes basin in the United States. Their study applied machine learning methods to predict ages in wells using well construction, well chemistry, and landscape characteristics. For a dataset of age tracers in 961 water samples, the mean travel time from the land surface to the sample location (center of saturated open interval) was estimated for each sample using parametric functions. The mean travel times were then modeled using a gradient boosting machine algorithm with cross validation tuning of model hyperparameters. The model contained...

This data set contains continuous water-surface elevation and water-quality (temperature, specific conductance, salinity, and turbidity) data recorded at 6- and 15-minute intervals, respectively, from two sites in the Bronx on the Harlem River -- Roberto Clemente State Park and Mill Pond Park. Water elevation was monitored every second to detect changes indicative of boat wakes expected to resuspend bed sediment from nearby alcoves. Boat wake detection triggered the collection of 1-second interval water elevation and 1-minute interval turbidity data. In addition to continuous data, grab samples for fecal indicator bacteria (Enterococci) and total suspended solids were collected weekly from - March to September,...

This digital dataset represents the three-dimensional hydrogeologic framework for the Rio Grande Transboundary region of New Mexico, Texas, USA, and Northern Chihuahua, Mexico. The data define the elevation, thickness, extent, and character of the principal hydrostratigraphic units of the region, and faults and igneous intrusive dikes that cut these units. The digital data describe the following five hydrostratigraphic units: RC, river channel alluvium; three informal subdivisions of the Santa Fe Group (USF, Upper Santa Fe Group; MSF, Middle Santa Fe Group; LSF, Lower Santa Fe Group); and BSMT, which includes all pre-Santa Fe Group rocks (basement). All units except BSMT (RC, USF, MSF, LSF) are split into two subunits....

The USGS Wyoming-Montana Water Science Center (WY–MT WSC) completed a report (Sando and McCarthy, 2018) documenting methods for peak-flow frequency analysis following implementation of the Bulletin 17C guidelines. The methods are used to provide estimates of peak-flow quantiles for 50-, 42.9-, 20-, 10-, 4-, 2-, 1-, 0.5-, and 0.2-percent annual exceedance probabilities (AEPs) for selected streamgages operated by the WY–MT WSC. This data release presents peak-flow frequency analyses for 11 selected streamgages in Jefferson County, Montana, that were based on methods described by Sando and McCarthy (2018). Sando, S.K., and McCarthy, P.M., 2018, Methods for peak-flow frequency analysis and reporting for streamgages...

Glacial retreat and mountain-permafrost degradation resulting from rising global temperatures have the potential to impact the frequency and magnitude of landslides in glaciated environments. In the Saint Elias Mountains of southeast Alaska, the presence of weak sedimentary and metamorphic rocks and active uplift resulting from the collision of the Yakutat and North American tectonic plates create landslide-prone conditions (Winkler et al., 2000). We used Landsat imagery to create an inventory of large (>0.1 square km) rock avalanches that occurred along the south flank of the Saint Elias Mountains between 1984 and 2019 as a baseline for present and future changes in landslide magnitude and frequency. This data...

This data set provides locations and values of water quality paramters from a survey conducted on August 26, 2016 using an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) in Patchogue Bay, NY. During the August 26 survey, 16,487 observations of water quality parameters were made. Parameters collected include dissolved oxygen, pH, water temperature, specific conductance, and salinity. Data was collected in approximately east-west transects by the AUV, with the northern-most transects made first. Data was collected between the hours of 1 am and 5 am to obtain minimum DO values in the daily cycle. There are three files available for download in the 'Attached Files' section below. There is a zip file which contains the observation...

Documented in this data release are data used to model and map the probability of arsenic being greater than 10 micrograms per liter in private domestic wells throughout the conterminous United States during drought conditions (Lombard and others, 2020). The model used to predict the probability of arsenic exceeding 10 micrograms per liter in private domestic wells was previously developed and documented by Ayotte and others (2017). Independent variables in the model include groundwater recharge and annual precipitation. In order to assess the impact of drought these variables were altered to simulate drought by reducing the 30-year average annual values by 25 and 50 percent. The impact of drought was also assessed...

This data release is part of a study designed to test geochemical methods that best delineate known mineral deposits in the northeast part of the Tanacross 1° x 3° quadrangle, within the Yukon-Tanana Upland region, Alaska. The total area sampled is about 3,200 km2. Extensive tundra cover and patchy spruce/alder vegetation and very limited outcrop exposure characterize the area. Soils and stream sediments contain mixtures of weathered bedrock, sand derived from dunes developed during the Pleistocene, and volcanic ash deposits from the 1.2 Ky eruption of the nearby Mount Churchill volcano. Several mineral deposits are known in the area, including the Late Cretaceous to earliest Tertiary porphyry Cu (+/-Mo-Au) deposits...

For State agencies and other water-resources managers, determining which waterbodies to allocate limited funds for protection and restoration while also maximizing cost benefit is challenging. This data release contains trophic state designations determined from secchi depth, and concentrations of chlorophyll a and microcystin at 232 lakes and reservoirs having a surface area of greater than 0.1 square kilometer in watersheds that drain to the Atlantic and eastern Gulf of Mexico coasts of the United States and in watersheds within the Tennessee River Basin. Estimates of nutrient loading (nitrogen and phosphorus, Hoos and others, 2013; Moorman and others, 2014) and flushing rates were combined with waterbody morphometry...
