The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service, collected field and remotely sensed data on precipitation, evapotranspiration (ET), and soil-water content to determine available soil-water storage (AWS) at six study sites on sandy and clay soils in Cass County, North Dakota. The extraction of unconventional oil and gas (UOG) resources often produces highly saline waste waters, which can be released to the river corridor environment during spills and pipe leakage. In North Dakota, USA more than 8,000 spills were recorded from 2008-2015, and more than half of those spills were related to pipelines. Data collected for this study were related to UOG wastewater leakage from a pipeline into a creek in the Williston Basin, North Dakota discovered on the January 6th, 2015. This data release documents three Microsoft Excel tables that contain data for understanding environmental tracer concentrations in groundwater of the High Plains aquifer system. Results of dissolved-gas modeling using environmental tracer concentrations (tritium, tritiogenic helium-3, and radiogenic helium-4), for the sample network (VPFS, vertical flow path study) are described. This model archive makes available the calibrated Soil-Water-Balance (SWB) model used to simulate potential recharge for the State of Maine for 1991 to 2015. The model was calibrated using annual values of runoff, evapotranspiration, and recharge for 32 watersheds in the State. The simulations were used to create 25-year statistical grids of annual potential recharge (mean, median, minimum, and maximum), and the uncertainty around these grids. The Wetland Reserve Program (WRP) is a voluntary program administered by the NRCS. It provides technical and financial assistance to private landowners and Tribes to restore, protect, and enhance wetlands in exchange for retiring eligible land from agriculture. For a site to be a wetland eligible for restoration, it must be in a zone with sustained or frequent flooding for a period of 7 consecutive days on average at least once every 2 years (a value termed the 7MQ2). Global trends in wetland degradation and loss have created an urgency to monitor wetland extent, as well as track the distribution and causes of wetland loss. Satellite imagery can be used to monitor wetlands over time, but few efforts have attempted to distinguish anthropogenic wetland loss from climate-driven variability in wetland extent. We present an approach to concurrently track land cover disturbance and inundation extent across the Mid-Atlantic region, United States, using the Landsat archive in Google Earth Engine. Daily measurements of evaporation using the Bowen ratio method were made at USGS station name LZ40 (USGS site number 265405080472100), a platform-based station constructed by the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) at the approximate center of Lake Okeechobee, Florida. Data collection began on November 15, 2012. Meteorological and environmental variables were measured every 30 seconds and averaged at 30-minute resolution until February 7, 2013 and 15-minute resolution thereafter to December 31, 2019, including: precipitation, air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, incoming/outgoing solar radiation, and water temperature at various depths.

In May 2021, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, logged 9 previously drilled boreholes in the bedrock beneath Bull Shoals Dam with acoustic and optical televiewer geophysical methods. The acoustic and optical televiewer logging results were used to identify fractures and small bedding planes in the bedrock beneath the dam using the image and structure interpretation module of Well CAD (v.5.4). This data release consists of each geophysical log in standard log American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) text (.las) format and a comma separated (.csv) file detailing the fracture and bedding plane analysis completed on each geophysical log.

The bathymetry (bottom elevation) of the downstream lock approach and lock chamber of Peoria Lock, near Peoria, Illinois, was surveyed on September 19, 2019. The data were collected using a multibeam echo-sounder mapping system (MBMS) with integrated inertial navigation solution (INS) mounted on a manned survey vessel. Nitrogen and phosphorus losses from agricultural areas have impacted the water quality of downstream rivers, lakes, and oceans. As a result, investment in the adoption of agricultural best management practices (BMPs) has grown but assessments of their effectiveness at large spatial scales have been sparse. This study applies regional Spatially Referenced Regression On Watershed-attributes (SPARROW) models developed for the Midwest, Northeast, and Southeast regions of the United States to quantify regional effects of BMPs on nutrient losses from agricultural lands. Four boreholes (MW1, MW1UZ, MW2, MW2.1) were drilled in the fall of 2017 and summer of 2018 in upper Redwell Basin, a headwater catchment underlain by hydrothermally altered sedimentary rock in the Elk Mountains near the town of Crested Butte, Colorado. The boreholes were continuously cored using a wireline HQ-sized coring system and sample a combination of Quaternary-aged surficial colluvium and the Cretaceous-aged Mesaverde Formation.
