This metadata record contains 15 tables with results from field and laboratory tests used to assess bioremediation in wetland areas at the Standard Chlorine of Delaware, Inc. Superfund site, New Castle County, Delaware, during 2019-2021. Included in the dataset are (1) polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) concentrations in wetland sediment from sediment microcosm laboratory experiments, (2) chlorobenzene concentrations in wetland sediment from sediment microcosm laboratory experiments, (3) polychlorinated biphenyl concentrations from PCB microcosm laboratory experiments using polyethylene strips, (4) chlorobenzene concentrations from PCB microcosm laboratory experiments using polyethylene strips, (5) total iron and ferrous...

Polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) concentrations were measured in the lower Ottawa River in 2009 before dredging and after dredging in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2015. Media collected for analysis included sediment, water, macroinvertebrates, and tetragnathid spiders at 18 stations. At each station 16 surface sediment core samples (top 15 cm) were collected and composited together with a mechanical mixer to achieve a homogeneous composite sample. Mid-depth water column samples were collected using a Van Dorn, Niskin or similar type sampler. Artificial substrate samplers (Hester Dendys) were used to collect aquatic macroinvertebrates. Riparian spiders (family Tetragnathidae) were collected from their webs by gloved hand...

The Permian Basin, straddling New Mexico and Texas, is one of the most productive oil and gas (OG) provinces in the United States. OG production yields large volumes of wastewater that contain elevated concentrations of major ions including salts (also referred to as brines), and trace organic and inorganic constituents. These OG wastewaters pose unknown environmental health risks, particularly in the case of accidental or intentional releases. Releases of OG wastewaters have resulted in water-quality and environmental health effects at sites in West Virginia (Akob, et al., 2016, Orem et al. 2017, Kassotis et al. 2016) and in the Williston Basin region in Montana and North Dakota (Cozzarelli et al. 2017, Cozzarelli...

This data release includes concentrations of 24 per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and physical properties of water-quality samples collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) at 64 selected sites in rivers and streams in Massachusetts over three rounds of sampling. The samples were collected from August to November 2020 when streamflow conditions were below normal (also considered to be base-flow conditions) at rivers and streams in urban areas that receive treated wastewater from municipal wastewater-treatment facilities, and in rural rivers and streams that are not associated with municipal wastewater discharges and may have other source inputs of PFAS. The measured physical properties include water...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) collected porewater samples from nine suction lysimeters in 2018, 2019, and 2021 for analysis of organic and inorganic constituents from the National Crude Oil Spill Fate and Natural Attenuation Research Site near Bemidji, MN. In August of 1979, approximately 1,700,000 L (liters), or 10,700 barrels, of crude oil spilled onto a glacial outwash aquifer. Sampled lysimeters included L310-1.5, L310-4.5, L1802-1.8, L9014-1.5, L9014-3.0, L9014-4.5, L9017-1.3, L9017-2.5, and L9017-3.7. This data release presents data on analytes that are important indicators of biodegradation processes. Some of these analytes, if present in elevated concentrations, can be a concern regarding potential effects...
