The Quartz Valley Indian Reservation will partner with tribes, federal agencies and higher education institutions in the Klamath Basin on a tribal youth intern program for the summer of 2014. This program will build on current efforts to integrate western science and TEK for climate change planning and adaptation in the Klamath Basin.

The USGS, in cooperation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, compiled a map of geomorphic and vegetation features along a 140-km segment of the main stem Klamath River below Iron Gate Dam, CA. Flood disturbance within the study reach is produced by the combined effect of natural flows and reservoir releases. The physical response of the Klamath River to flood disturbance is strongly dependent upon sediment storage in bars and floodplains. The map provides a summary of channel and riparian vegetation classes that were used to estimate vegetation change over time due to sediment flow and storage in bars and floodplains. Study results will be useful for interpreting...

This data release includes a file geodatabase with land cover maps for a 313-kilometer segment along the mainstem Klamath River corridor downstream from Iron Gate Dam, CA. The maps were derived from high-resolution (15cm) imagery and topobathymetric elevation data, collected by NV5 Geospatial (formerly QSI, Inc) and published on Open Topography (https://doi.org/10.5069/G9DN436N). Acquisition dates spanned 06/01/2018 to 06/14/2018. The area of interest was discretized into three zones and land cover maps were generated using geoprocessing tools, implemented in ArcMap 10.8.1, and image classification tools, implemented in Ecognition 10.2. The maps include six land cover classes: 1) trees, 2) shrubs, 3) grass, 4) bare...

The U.S. Geological Survey is monitoring concentrations of metals and other trace elements in water, streambed sediment, and aquatic invertebrates at 6 locations in the middle and lower portions of the mainstem Klamath River from below J.C. Boyle dam in Oregon to near the mouth on the northwestern coast of California. Included are 3 tributary monitoring sites, one each on the Scott, Salmon, and Trinity Rivers. This data release makes available major and minor trace element concentrations in surface water, bed sediment, and aquatic invertebrates collected in September 2018, and in bed sediment collected in September 2019.

This product summarizes the collection and analysis of bed material sample grain size distribution collected from the Iron Gate, Copco, and J.C. Boyle Reservoirs located in Northern California and Southern Oregon on the Klamath River. Samples were collected on June 16, 2020 from cores (less than 1m depth) and processed for the full size distribution.

This data release includes a file geodatabase with high-resolution geospatial products that illustrate the geomorphology and various land-surface parameters along a 313-kilometer segment of the mainstem Klamath River corridor downstream of Iron Gate Dam, CA. The geospatial products were derived from topobathymetric elevation data collected to document baseline topography and bathymetry before the removal of four hydro-electric dams. The elevation survey included aerial lidar, using an integrated topobathymetric sensor (with near-infrared and green wavelengths), and boat-based sonar measurements of water depths. Acquisition dates for the aerial topobathymetric lidar spanned 06/01/2018 to 06/14/2018. For the bathymetric...
