Fine-grained sediments, or “fines,” are nearly ubiquitous in natural sediments, even in the predominantly coarse-grained sediments that host gas hydrates. Fines within these sandy sediments can be mobilized and subsequently clog flow pathways while methane is being extracted from gas hydrate as an energy resource. Using two-dimensional (2D) micromodels to test the conditions in which clogging occurs provides insights for choosing production operation parameters that optimize methane recovery in the field. Laboratory flow-through tests were conducted during slide-hold-slide experiments in a conventional triaxial deformation configuration. Experiments were conducted on 1-inch diameter cylindrical cores of Westerly granite bisected by a sawcut oriented at 30 degrees from vertical. Tests were conducted at a constant confining pressure of 30 MPa with a 10 MPa pore fluid pressure. The pore fluid was deionized water. Experiments were conducted at temperatures of 22, 100, and 200 degC.

This dataset contains a comparison of chemical analysis results obtained by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) New York Water Science Center Soil and Low-Ionic Strength Water Quality Laboratory and the Adirondack Lake Survey Corporation (ALSC) Laboratory. Duplicate samples were collected biweekly from Buck Creek and the North and South Tributaries of Buck Creek from September 5, 2006, through September 2, 2008, to be analyzed in each laboratory.
