Data from 10-day sediment toxicity tests of bed sediments from the Eighteenmile Creek Area of Concern and Oak Orchard Creek (nearby reference stream), Niagara and Orleans County, New York, respectively. Specifically, the data was used to compare the survival and growth of two macroinvertebrate species in sediments from study sites and laboratory controls. Results are from 10-day sediment exposures of two test species, Chironomus dilutus and Hyalella azteca. Sediment samples were collected from five sites on each stream. Bed-sediments were collected from depositional areas using a petite Ponar (0.03 square meter) dredge. At each site, approximately five grabs were composited into a bucket, mixed, and a 4-liter (L)...

Low-altitude (80-100 meters above ground level) digital images were obtained from a camera mounted on a 3DR Solo quadcopter, a small unmanned aerial system (UAS), along the Lake Ontario shoreline in New York during July 2017. These data were collected to document and monitor effects of high lake levels, including shoreline erosion, inundation, and property damage in the vicinity of Sodus Bay, New York. This data release includes images tagged with locations determined from the UAS GPS; tables with updated estimates of camera positions and attitudes based on the photogrammetric reconstruction; tables listing locations of the base stations, ground control points, and transect points; geolocated, RGB-colored point...

This dataset contains morphological information for Ciscoes (Coregonus, subgenus Leucichthys) collected from the Great Lakes as part of the "Great Lakes Cisco Project". The project was initiated in 1950 by Stanford H. Smith, who was a Fishery Research Biologist in the then U.S. Bureau of Commercial Fisheries. The dataset includes 16 morphometrics (linear measurements) and one meristic (count of gill rakers) for Ciscoes, together with biological data (i.e., length, weight, sex, and maturity), sampling location, and date of collection. Consult Koelz (1929) and the "Morphology of Ciscoes" section in Eshenroder et al. (2016) for descriptions of how measurements and counts were made in the then "Ann Arbor Laboratory"...

The dataset is composed of two data tables containing information from boat electrofishing surveys of two tributaries to Lake Ontario, Eighteenmile Creek and Oak Orchard Creek during June 2019. The first data table contains fish collection information and the second data table contains information on the sampled reaches.

From May of 2015 through September of 2018, water-quality data were collected at 178 locations from select tributaries, embayments, and nearshore lake locations along New York's Lake Ontario waterfront in support of the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative and the Lakewide Action Management Plan. These data include environmental, replicate, and blank samples of nutrients and suspended solids as well as field measurements of physical parameters (temperature, specific conductance, dissolved oxygen, pH, turbidity, phycocyanin relative fluorescence, and chlorophyll relative fluorescence).

Static flood inundation boundary extents were created along the entire shoreline of Lake Ontario in Cayuga, Jefferson, Monroe, Niagara, Orleans, Oswego, and Wayne Counties in New York by using recently acquired (2007, 2010, 2014, and 2017) light detection and ranging (lidar) data. The flood inundation maps, accessible through the USGS Flood Inundation Mapping Program website at https://www.usgs.gov/mission-areas/water-resources/science/flood-inundation-mapping-fim-program, depict estimates of the areal extent and water depth of shoreline flooding in 8 segments corresponding to adjacent water-surface elevations (stages) at 8 USGS lake gages on Lake Ontario. This item includes data sets for segment G - Lake Ontario...

The development of a reliable method of age estimation for Grass Carp is necessary for the successful management of this invasive species. Multiple federal and state agencies with assistance from commercial fishers collected adult Grass Carp from 2012 to 2018. Ossified parts were collected from these fish, and age estimates from them were compared to develop an age estimation method. Here we provide the data used in that effort.
From May of 2015 through September of 2018, water-quality data were collected at 178 locations and velocity data were collected along 7 transects from select tributaries, embayments, and nearshore lake locations along New York's Lake Ontario waterfront in support of the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative and the Lakewide Action Management Plan. These data include: depth, velocity magnitude, velocity direction, navigational data, ADCP temperature, and channel profile.

The Great Lakes Research Vessel Catch (RVCAT) database is managed at the Great Lakes Science Center (GLSC). RVCAT has been used as the primary data collection tool aboard the GLSC’s research vessel operations across the Great Lakes. Content: The data set has been collected on various vessel operations on all the Great Lakes and select connecting waterways between the years 1930-2021. Data collection begins in early spring and ends in late fall. Each vessel operation was completed for a specific purpose, or target mission. Data Structure: These data are collected at the GLSC in the RVCAT Oracle database. This database has been broken down into comma separated value (csv) spreadsheets in order to facilitate greater...

This data release includes Lake Ontario prey fish data including species captured, relative abundance, spatial distribution, size structure, and age data from the April or spring prey fish bottom trawl survey, 1997 and 2021. Data from 1997 - 2015 are from U.S. waters of Lake Ontario while data from 2016 - 2021 include both U.S. and Canadian waters of Lake Ontario. Details about the vessel and gear descriptions, sampling protocols, and catch processing protocols can be found in the Process sections of this metadata. Portions of this data release follows the data model of the USGS Great Lakes Science Center Research Vessel Catalog (RVCAT). The trawl data included in this data release are a subset of the larger RVCAT...

Lake Ontario. Glaciated limestone laid bare by wave action at Pillar Point, New York. The bluff is composed of till. Besides the parallel striation, the surface exhibits an irregular group of scratches in a different direction. These were supposedly caused by the stranding of an iceberg. Circa 1895.
