This database was developed for the Water Availability Tool for Environmental Resources (WATER) for the Delaware River Basin (DRB), a decision support tool that provides a consistent and objective method of simulating streamflow under historical, forecasted, and managed conditions (Williamson and others, 2015). This database provides historical spatial and climatic data for simulating streamflow for 2001–11, in addition to land-cover forecasts and general circulation model (global climate model; GCM) projections that focus on 2030 and 2060. The database provides for geospatial sampling, at a 10-30 m resolution, of landscape characteristics, including topographic and soil properties, land cover and impervious surface,...

Historical (1981-2005) vs. Projected (2031-’55) Yields. Each year’s crop yields are calculated as an average of all counties in North and South Dakota. Hashed representations of projected yields are from RCP 4.5 emissions scenario from seven GCMs, namely CESM (Community Earth System Model), CNRM (Center National de Recherches Météorologiques (France)), GFDL (Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory), GISS (Goddard Institute of Space Studies), HADGEM (Hadley Global Environment Model), IPSL (Institut Pierre-Simon Laplace (France)) and MIROC (Model for Interdisciplinary Research on Climate). Median projection in a given year is calculated by taking the median yield value of the yield projections from each of seven climate...

Wetlands are frequently used in the U.S. for treating nitrate in agricultural runoff. However, numerous other biologically active contaminants, such as antibiotics and nitrification inhibitors, regularly co-occur with nitrate and many can affect the efficiency of nitrate removal. This project evaluated the discrete and combined effects of specific veterinary and human antibiotics and a common nitrification inhibitor (nitrapyrin) on nitrate-N treatment efficiency in saturated sediments and floating treatment wetlands. Sediment and water samples were collected from 3 locations at the USDA Meat Animal Research Facility near Clay Center NE in August 2019 for assessment of background conditions in order to determine...

The decline of the iconic monarch butterfly in North America has motivated research on the impacts of land use and land cover (LULC) change and climate variability on monarch habitat and population dynamics. We investigated spring and fall trends in LULC, milkweed and nectar resources over a 20-year period, and ~30 years of climate variables in Mexico and Texas, a key region supporting spring and fall migration during monarchs annual life cycle. We estimated a 2.9% decline in milkweed in Texas, but little to no change in Mexico. Fall and spring nectar resources declined <1% in both countries. Vegetation greenness increased in both the fall and spring in Mexico while the other climate variables, for both countries,...

This data release presents geologic map data for the surficial geology of the Aztec 1-degree by 2-degree quadrangle. The map area lies within two physiographic provinces of Fenneman (1928): the Southern Rocky Mountains province, and the Colorado Plateau province, Navajo section. Geologic mapping is mostly compiled from published geologic map data sources ranging from 1:24,000 to 1:250,000 scale, with limited new interpretive contributions. Gaps in map compilation are related to a lack of published geologic mapping at the time of compilation, and not necessarily a lack of surficial deposits. Much of the geology incorporated from published geologic maps is adjusted based on digital elevation model and natural-color...
Observations of irrigated agricultural land within the Hualapai Valley Groundwater Basin in Arizona. Crops were verified in situ once in 2020 on July 16th; based on digitized field boundaries. Field boundaries were digitized from U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Agricultural Imagery Program images dated 2019 and supplemented with Landsat and Sentinel2 imagery collections accessed via the U.S. Geological Survey LandLook Viewer (https://landlook.usgs.gov/) and Sentinel Hub, Sentinel Playground (https://apps.sentinel-hub.com/sentinel-playground). Satellite images were also used to identify the length of the growing season and crop condition. Water withdrawals were calculated using the modified Blaney-Criddle...

A Soil-Water-Balance (SWB) model was developed to estimate annual net infiltration below the root-zone for the Greater Wake County Area, North Carolina for the period 1981 through 2019 and project future estimates from 2020 through 2070. The model was developed as part of a study to assess groundwater availability in the fractured-rock aquifers underlying Wake County. The model is documented in the associated report, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Scientific Investigations Report 2022-5041. Comparison was done with annual base-flow estimates from the PART hydrograph separation technique for available years of...
Climate change and land use change have been shown to influence lake temperatures and water clarity in different ways. To better understand the diversity of lake responses to climate change and give managers tools to manage individual lakes, we focused on improving prediction accuracy for daily water temperature profiles and optical habitat in 881 lakes in Minnesota during 1980-2018. The data are organized into these items: This research was funded by the Department of the Interior Northeast and North Central Climate Adaptation Science Centers, a Midwest Glacial Lakes Fish Habitat Partnership grant through F&WS Access to computing facilities was provided by USGS Advanced Research Computing, USGS Yeti Supercomputer...

The estimation and mapping of actual evapotranspiration (ETa) is an active area of applied research in the fields of agriculture and water resources. Thermal remote sensing-based methods, using coarse resolution satellites, have been successful at estimating ETa over the conterminous United States (CONUS) and other regions of the world. In this study, we present CONUS-wide ETa from Landsat thermal imagery-using the Operational Simplified Surface Energy Balance (SSEBop) model in the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform. Over 150,000 Landsat satellite images were used to produce 10 years of annual ETa (2010-2019). The accuracy assessment of the SSEBop results included point-based evaluation using monthly...
