Chalk Cliffs, located 8 miles southwest of Buena Vista, Colorado, is one of the most active debris-flow areas in the state (U.S. Geological Survey). This "Child item" page includes videos of floods captured by one of the high-definition cameras at the monitoring site in Chalk Cliffs, CO. This camera (Bridge Camera) is located at Station 1 which is at the bridge cross section at the channel. The attached figure "station_and_camera_locations.png" provides an overview figure with the location of the two cameras and three stations along the channel. Video recording for all cameras is triggered using a rainfall threshold, derived from rainfall measurements from rain gauges (Michel et al., 2019). The complete videos...
This camera (Middle Camera) is located near Station 2. The attached figure "station_and_camera_locations.png" provides an overview figure with the location of the four cameras and three stations along the channel. Video recording for all cameras is triggered using a rainfall threshold (Michel et al., 2019). The complete videos for all the cameras are downloaded manually during site visits. More detailed information about the cameras...
This data release contains point clouds obtained from three terrestrial laser scanner (TLS) surveys of a hillslope burned by the 2016 Fish Fire in the San Gabriel Mountains, CA, USA. The TLS surveys were completed with a Leica ScanStation C10. All point data are in local coordinates and the units are in meters. The first survey was made on 19 November 2016 prior to the first post-wildfire rainstorm. The second survey was performed on 5 January 2017. Two runoff-generating rainstorms occurred between the first and second surveys. The two rainstorms had peak fifteen-minute average rainfall intensities of 27 mm/h and 10 mm/h, respectively. The third survey was performed on 22 February 2017, following five additional...

The winter rainy season of 2016-2017 brought abundant rainfall to the state of California, including the San Francisco Bay region. Thousands of shallow landslides were triggered as a result of saturated soils and intense rainfall from strong winter storms in January and February 2017. The highest concentration of landslides from these storms occurred in the eastern part of the bay region, where landslides in the hills east of the Cities of Richmond, Berkeley, Oakland, Hayward, and Fremont, and elsewhere in the region, damaged homes, displaced a major electrical transmission-line tower, and blocked several heavily traveled state highway routes. The data presented here support our published map titled, "Landslides...

This "Child item" page includes videos of debris flows captured by one of the high-definition cameras at the monitoring site in Chalk Cliffs, CO. This camera (Wide-angle Camera) is located near Station 1 on the opposite side of the basin with a broad view of the channel. The attached figure "station_and_camera_locations.png" provides an overview figure with the location of the two cameras and three stations along the channel. Video recording for all cameras is triggered using a rainfall threshold, derived from rainfall measurements from rain gauges (Michel et al.,...

This "Child item" page includes videos of floods captured by two of the high-definition cameras at Chalk Cliffs which are located at the Upper Station. This station drains an area of 0.06 km2 and was used to monitor flow properties and triggering conditions in the headwaters of the study area. It was equipped with two rain gauges, a laser distance meter to measure flow stage, two geophones to record ground vibrations, a force plate to measure the basal impact forces of the flow, and two downward looking video cameras to record flow characteristics (Kean et al., 2020).The...
This data release includes information used to support the manuscript "Rockfall kinematics from massive rock cliffs: outlier boulders and flyrock from Whitney Portal, California rockfalls". The included datasets and supplement include data that was collected and processed to investigate the kinematics of boulder trajectories and impacts to both other boulders and to existing trees on the talus slope beneath the source area cliffs. This data release includes four folders and one .csv file: 1) GIS Data – shapefile (.shp) of runout zone boundary, 2) RockyFor3d Model Data - .asc and .csv files necessary as input for RockyFor3d model, 3) Terrestrial Lidar- .txt file containing the XYZRGB point cloud collected post rockfall...
