Medicine Lake volcano (MLV) is a very large shield-shaped volcano located in northern California where it forms part of the southern Cascade Range of volcanoes. It has erupted hundreds of times during its half-million-year history, including nine times during the past 5,200 years, most recently 950 years ago. This record represents one of the highest eruptive frequencies among Cascade volcanoes and includes a wide variety of different types of lava flows and at least two explosive eruptions that produced widespread fallout. This digital data release contains geospatial geologic data compiled for northeastern California, a region predominantly covered by Quaternary and Neogene volcanic rocks. Geologic map data were compiled for the purposes of interpreting data from two aeromagnetic surveys that were flown for the area; geologic compilation focused on the existence and location of faults and volcanic features - those geologic elements considered most likely to produce a magnetic anomaly. Remote camera stations were set up between 2016 and 2019 to document the occurrence of mesocarnivores and other wildlife in five Klamath Monitoring Network Parks (Crater Lake National Park, Lassen Volcanic National Park, Lava Beds National Monument, Oregon Caves National Monument and Whiskeytown National Recreation Area). The primary goal was to document the distribution of three mesocarnivore species of conservation concern: the Pacific fisher (Pekania pennanti), Pacific marten (Martes caurina) and the Sierra Nevada red fox (Vulpes vulpes necator). Remote camera stations were set up in Lava Beds National Monument and Modoc National Forest from January to May 2018 to document occurrence of mesocarnivores and other wildlife. Thirty-three cameras were set up at 12 primary sampling units (clusters of one to four cameras) throughout the park. Potentially suitable habitat occurred in small patches in Lava Beds National Monument with cameras were placed in groups of one, two or three. To allow for more primary sampling units of four cameras, some cameras were installed in neighboring portions of Modoc National Forest. The California volcano locations, threat rank and hazard zones data release contains two shapefiles for download or use as a web map service. The California Volcanic Center Locations shapefile was created to provide a generalized location of volcano hazard sources. The California Volcano Hazard Zones shapefile was created from previously published hazard zone reports. Specific details about each file can be found in the metadata included with each file and the read-me document for this data release.
