Recent improvements in both acquisition of sediment temperatures and simulation modelling of heat and ground-water transport, are leading to widespread implementation of heat as a tracer of groundwater fluxes near streams. The present work provides a brief historical review of the use of heat as a tracer of shallow ground-water movement, and details current theory used to estimate stream/groundwater exchanges. The governing equations for heat and ground-water transport in the near-stream environment are presented. The various relations between the hydrologic state of a stream channel and the expected thermal response is graphical depicted. Techniques for installation and monitoring of temperature and stage equipment...

Given that Reclamation is conducting multiple long-term water resources assessments at any given time within each of its regions, and given that climate change now must be addressed in such documentation efforts, it is in Reclamation’s interests to have a consistent portrayal of climate change literature within each of these documents. Further, Reclamation can alleviate the burden on project-specific scoping efforts to include development of such narratives by instead developing and maintaining region-applicable narratives. Fiscal year (FY) 2010 involved releasing the first version of “Literature Synthesis on Climate Change Implications for Reclamation’s Water Resources” (pdf). FY 2011 involves completing and releasing...
The present paper aims to identify and describe different types of energy consumers in a more comprehensive way than previous segmentation studies using cluster analysis. Energy consumers were segmented based on their energy-related behavioral characteristics. In addition to purchase- and curtailment-related energy-saving behavior, consumer classification was also based on acceptance of policy measures and energy-related psychosocial factors, so the used behavioral segmentation base was more comprehensive compared to other studies. Furthermore, differentiation between the energy-saving purchase of daily products, such as food, and of energy efficient appliances allowed a more differentiated characterization of the...
