These data were compiled to create models that estimate entrainment rates and population growth rates of smallmouth bass below Glen Canyon Dam. Objective(s) of our study were to predict smallmouth bass entrainment rates and population growth under different future scenarios of Lake Powell elevations and management. These data represent parameters needed for associated models and data needed to produce figures. These data were collected from publicly available online sources including published papers and federal government datasets. These data were assembled by researchers from U.S. Geological Survey, Utah State University, Colorado State University, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. These data can be used to run...

Lake Powell retains most of the phosphorus that it receives, leading to downstream phosphorus limitation. These data were compiled to examine controls on phosphorus cycling below Lake Powell in the Colorado River and from storm inputs from the Paria River. Objectives of our study were to determine how several forms of phosphorus, both organic and inorganic, were cycled under varying dissolved oxygen concentrations and pH, reflecting the range of values observed in the river over the years. These data represent nitrogen, phosphorus, calcium, and carbon concentrations, water quality parameters (pH, dissolved oxygen, temperature), sediment composition, total protein, and extracellular enzyme activity (alkaline phosphatase)....

These data were compiled to accompany flow modeling work on Little Colorado river above the mouth (USGS gage 09402300). The data include example models in FaSTMECH and SToRM solvers in the iRIC framework, topographic data collected by LiDAR and total station in June 2017, and high water marks from nine historic floods. Other data also include location and other information for control points and gage structures. Topographic data include ground topography collected by LiDAR and channel bathymetry collected by total station survey of a 2500 meter reach of the Little Colorado River ending near the confluence with the Colorado River. High water mark data were collected by USGS personnel using total station surveys and...

These data were compiled to perform analyses of hydrologic change, changes in sediment transport, and channel change within Moenkopi Wash, Arizona. Objective(s) of our study were to quantify the magnitude and timing of changes in hydrology, sediment transport, and channel form within Moenkopi Wash and to determine the downstream effects of those changes on sediment delivery downstream to the Little Colorado River, and the Colorado River. These data represent instantaneous discharge records, suspended-sediment sample records, topographic survey data, historical aerial imagery, and channel polygons and centerlines mapped on the historical imagery. Instantaneous discharge records in this study began in 1926 and extend...

These data were compiled to accompany flow modeling work on Little Colorado river above the mouth (USGS gage 09402300). The data consist of a baseflow longitudinal profile of the lowermost 22 km of the Little Colorado River. This profile was digitized from 10 map plates from the Horizons Inc Aerial Mapping Professionals 1990-1992 Overflight data report produced for Glen Canyon Environmental Studies.

This dataset represents the network-adjusted results of relative- and absolute-gravity surveys. Relative-gravity surveys were carried out using a ZLS Coporation Burris relative-gravity meter. The effect of solid Earth tides and ocean loading were removed from the data. Instrument drift was removed by evaluating gravity change during repeated measurements at one or more base stations, or between absolute-gravity stations. Absolute-gravity surveys were carried out using a Micro-g LaCoste, Inc. A-10 absolute-gravity meter. The vertical gravity gradient was assumed to be -3 microGal/cm at each absolute-gravity site. Relative-gravity differences and absolute-gravity data were combined using a least-squares network adjustment,...

These data were compiled to monitor native fishes (particularly humpback chub Gila cypha) in the Little Colorado River, in the Grand Canyon, AZ. Objective(s) of our study were to evaluate the timing of native fish migration and the abundance of migratory and resident fishes between the Colorado and Little Colorado Rivers in the Grand Canyon. These data represent encounter histories for fishes - including array detections and physical captures. These data were collected in the lower 13.56 river kilometers of the Little Colorado River in April and May of 2021 and 2022. These data were collected by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (physical captures) and U.S. Geological Survey (array detections). These data can be used...

Survey data was integrated within a GIS by georeferencing observations to an existing national spatial framework (National Hydrography Dataset), which allows for broader transferability to watersheds shared with neighboring states, creating a seamless layer not limited by state boundaries. Addressing the management and conservation challenges for native fishes will require the ability to “data mine” the extensive existing information on distribution and abundance of species available from aquatic survey programs. Results from such syntheses can be used to assess the current conservation status of native fishes, quantify the extent of species invasions, and establish baseline distributions with which to evaluate...

In May 2021, the Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center (GCMRC) of the U.S. Geological Survey’s (USGS), Southwest Biological Science Center (SBSC) acquired airborne multispectral high resolution data for the Colorado River in Grand Canyon in Arizona, USA. The imagery data consist of four bands (Band 1 – red, Band 2 – green, Band 3 – blue, and Band 4 – near infrared) with a ground resolution of 20 centimeters (cm). These image data are available to the public as 16-bit GeoTIFF files, which can be read and used by most geographic information system (GIS) and image-processing software. The spatial reference of the image data are in the State Plane (SP) map projection using the central Arizona zone (FIPS 0202)...
