These data were compiled for a manuscript in which 1) we develop a water temperature model for the major river segments and tributaries of the Colorado River basin, including the Colorado, Green, Yampa, White, and San Juan rivers; 2) we link modeled water temperature to fish population data to predict the probability native and nonnative species will be common in the future in a warming climate; and 3) assess the degree to which dams create thermal discontinuity in summer in river segments across the western US. Per goal #1, we developed a water temperature model using data spanning 1985-2015 that predicts water temperature every 1 mile (1.6-km) in rivers both now and in the future due to the potential influence...
This dataset describes biomass and methylmercury concentrations in zooplankton, other invertebrates, fish, and coarse and fine detritus samples collected at the outflow locations of Brownlee and Oxbow Reservoirs in the Snake River Hells Canyon Complex. Based on the sampling locations, the sampled materials were presumed to have flowed through the dam turbines or over the spillway, thereby representing biological export from the reservoirs. Samples were collected biweekly at each location over a sixteen-month period, June 2018 – September 2019. Sampling and analysis methods are described in the Processing Steps section of the metadata.
The four primary objectives of this project were to: (1) compile a dataset of fish occurrence records for the entirety of the Rio Grande drainage in the US and Mexico; (2) improve that dataset by reformatting dates, synonymizing species names to a modern taxonomy, georeferencing localities, and flagging geographic outliers; (3) for those species with sufficient data for modeling, create species distribution models (SDMs); (4) use the environmental conditions determined via those models to project the species distributions into the future under two climate scenarios. To accomplish those objectives, we compiled 495,101 fish occurrence records mined from 122 original sources into a single database. We then, on the...

Growth of smallmouth bass (Micropterus dolomieu) was described for three widely spaced areas progressing downstream in Flaming Gorge Reservoir, Wyoming-Utah. Significant differences among areas were detected only for age-1 fish. Growth in the reservoir was compared with that of populations in other lentic habitats of varying growing season lengths in North America; slow growth in the reservoir was related to the relatively short growing season (less than 90 days). Published in Western North American Naturalist, volume 53, issue 2, on pages 180 - 185, in 1993.

The data were gathered as a preliminary assessment of estrogenicity under base-flow conditions at over 100 sites (lakes and streams) throughout New Jersey followed by more targeted sampling of smallmouth bass at nine sites with varying levels of estrogenicity. In 2016, 102 sites (lakes and streams) for the preliminary estrogenicity assessment were selected utilizing compiled results of previous monitoring studies (chemical and biological), current sampling networks, and other areas of concern based on input from stakeholders. Discrete grab surface water samples were collected under base-flow conditions in the fall of 2016 and analyzed for levels of estrogenicity using a bioluminescent yeast screen. Water samples...
