This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release provides spatial water-quality data collected from Milford Lake, Kansas, on May 26, June 9, July 14, July 21, and September 15, 2016. All data are reported as raw measured values and are not rounded to USGS significant figures. Continuous water-quality monitors were used to measure water temperature, specific conductance, turbidity, pH, chlorophyll, phycocyanin, dissolved oxygen, and fluorescent dissolved organic matter (fDOM) at thirty-second intervals at depths of 0.5- and 1.5-meters throughout the lake.

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release provides phytoplankton data collected from Milford Lake, Kansas, during May through November 2016. This data release was produced in compliance with the federal open-data requirements as a way to make scientific products associated with USGS research efforts and publications available to the public. The dataset includes all samples collected at 37 USGS sample locations at Milford Lake. Phytoplankton were identified to the lowest possible taxonomic level and abundance (density) and biovolume are reported.
This dataset provides the estimated cell abundance and total biovolume for whole-water picoplankton samples collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) at 25 different sites in Kansas between August of 2020 and August of 2022. The samples were analyzed by BSA Environmental Services, Inc. This data is part of a larger multi-agency project between U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and USGS called the Cyanobacteria Assessment Network (CyAN). The goal of the CyAN project is to develop a satellite-based, early warning system to detect harmful algal blooms (HABs) in freshwater systems.
This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release provides time-lapse color photography collected from three sites at Milford Lake, Kansas, during June through November 2017 and June through November 2018. Photographic images are displayed using a .mp4 common multimedia format. Time-lapse cameras were used to visually capture cyanobacterial accumulations and movement throughout Milford Lake, Kansas, at five-minute intervals (South Causeway Camera and Fort Riley Marina Camera) and at fifteen-minute intervals (Wakefield Camera). This dataset includes time-lapse photography collected at three short-term, fixed-site locations as part of a study to evaluate the temporal and spatial variability of nutrients and algal constituents...
This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release provides continuously-measured water-quality data collected from two sites on Milford Lake, Kansas, during July 26-27 and August 30-31, 2015. All data are reported as raw measured values and are not rounded to USGS significant figures. Water-quality monitors were used to measure water temperature, specific conductance, turbidity, pH, chlorophyll, phycocyanin, and dissolved oxygen at fifteen-minute intervals. This dataset includes all continuously measured data collected at two short-term, fixed-site locations as part of a study to evaluate the spatial variability of harmful algal blooms in Milford Lake, Kansas.

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release provides time-lapse photography collected from six sites at Milford Lake, Kansas, during June through November 2016. All photographic images are displayed using a .mov common multimedia format. Time-lapse cameras were used to visually capture cyanobacterial accumulations and movement throughout Milford Lake, Kansas, at one-hour intervals from June 29 through July 20 then at five-minute intervals from July 21 through November 28. This dataset includes all time-lapse photography collected at six short-term, fixed-site locations as part of a study to evaluate the spatial variability of cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms in Milford Lake, Kansas.
This dataset contains algal identification and enumeration data for phytoplankton samples collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) between July 2019 and November 2019 at seven reservoirs across the United States. Reservoirs sampled included Lake Koshkonong, Wisconsin, Pelican Lake, Minnesota, Lake Ida, Minnesota, Pomme de Terre, Minnesota, Lake Emily, Minnesota, Milford Lake, Kansas, and Jordan Lake, North Carolina. The samples were analyzed at the Caribbean - Florida Water Science Center (CFWSC) Phycology Laboratory using morphology-based microscopy methods. This data is part of a larger multi-agency project between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration,...
This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release provides vertical profiles of water-quality data collected from two sites in Milford Lake, Kansas, August 24-25, 2017. Data are rounded to USGS significant figures. A multiparameter water-quality sonde was used to measure water temperature, specific conductance, dissolved oxygen, pH, turbidity, chlorophyll fluorescence, phycocyanin fluorescence, and dissolved organic matter fluorescence. Photosynthetically active radiation was measured using a spherical underwater quantum sensor during each sample collection with daylight present. Vertical profiles were collected approximately 75 minutes apart and alternated between the two sites. This data release was produced in...
