This data release includes concentrations of contaminants of emerging concern (CEC), by chemical class, for sites sampled within 25 river basins in the U.S. portion of the Great Lakes basin and associated watershed characteristics. The CEC data include concentrations in surface water and sediment samples that were collected during 2010-2014. During the first 3 years, sample sites near mostly urban areas were chosen. The last two years of study focused on other point sources and few nominal reference sites. Water and sediment samples were analyzed for a diverse suite of CECs including, but not limited to, pharmaceuticals, industrial chemicals, flame retardants, pesticides, fragrances, and plasticizers. Statistical...
This data release documents the digital data used to produce flood-inundation maps for a range of gage heights (stages) for the Sabinal River near Utopia, Tex. The simulated flood-inundation maps correspond to a range in stage from 11 to 28 feet (ft) at U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) streamgage 08197970 Sabinal River at Utopia, Tex. at intervals of 0.5-ft. The maps were created for a 10-mile reach of the Sabinal River extending from USGS streamgage 08197936 Sabinal River below Mill Creek near Vanderpool, Tex. to USGS streamgage 08197970 Sabinal River at Utopia, Tex. (hereinafter referred to as the “Utopia gage”) and 7-mile reach of the West Sabinal River were created by the USGS in cooperation with the Bandera County...
The U.S. Geological Survey Dakota Water Science Center, in cooperation with the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe, have been collecting data to document shoreline erosion along Lake Sharpe and within the Lower Brule Reservation. This data release includes data collected and compiled from four efforts: shorelines were digitized from existing available maps and aerial imagery to record shoreline locations over time, trail cameras were used to automatically collect photos of the shoreline over time and create time-lapse videos, bank location surveys were completed at intervals to record changes in the location of the top of bank over time, and an unmanned aerial system (drone) was used to collect imagery that was used to generate...
The development and the generation of the datasets that are published through this data release, were based on the results and findings of the report mentioned here: Kim, M.H., 2018, Flood-inundation maps for the Wabash River at Lafayette, Indiana: U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Report 2018–5017, 10 p., https://doi.org/10.3133/sir20185017. The geospatial dataset contain final versions of the raster and vector geospatial data and its related metadata, and the model archive dataset contains all relevant files to document and re-run the surface-water (SW) hydraulic model that are discussed in the report.
Digital flood-inundation maps were created by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the Bandera County River Authority and Groundwater District and with the Texas Water Development Board for a 23-mile reach of the Medina River extending from Winans Creek to English Crossing, Texas. The flood-inundation maps represent a range of selected water-surface elevations at USGS streamflow-gaging station 08178880 Medina River at Bandera, Texas (hereinafter referred to as the “Bandera station”). Near-real time hydrologic data for estimating areas of inundation near the Bandera station are available from the USGS National Water Information System (NWIS) web interface (https://waterdata.usgs.gov/tx/nwis/) and...
This model archive makes available the calibrated Soil-Water-Balance (SWB) model used to simulate potential recharge for the glacial aquifer system east of the Rocky Mountains in the conterminous United States at a 1-kilometer (km) resolution for the period 1980-2011. The calibrated SWB model in this model archive and associated U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Report is referred to as the glacial SWB model. Potential groundwater recharge was determined on a daily basis as precipitation in excess of interception, runoff, evapotranspiration, and soil water storage capacity. Daily groundwater recharge amounts were aggregated to an annual basis for grids available in this model archive. Potential recharge...

A soil-water balance model (SWB) was developed to estimate potential recharge and surface runoff for portions of the Cannon River drainage basin, southeast Minnesota, for the period 1995 through 2010. The model was used in the creation of Cannon River streamflow distribution maps, as part of the associated report, U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Map 2017-3390 (http://dx.doi.org/10.3133/SIM20173390). This SWB model was calibrated using three independent hydrograph separation models: PART, Hysep-fixed, and Hysep-sliding method. The basic framework for this model was the statewide Minnesota SWB potential recharge model, described, calibrated, and documented as part of U.S. Geological Survey Scientific...
A soil-water balance model (SWB) was developed to estimate evapotranspiration in six ditch basins of the Glacial Ridge National Wildlife Refuge area, northwestern Minnesota, during 2002–2015. The model was used to estimate evapotranspiration in water balances in six ditch basins as part of the associated report, U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Report 2019-5041 (https://dx.doi.org/10.3133/SIR20195041). This SWB model was derived from the statewide Minnesota SWB potential recharge model, described, calibrated, and documented as part of U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Report 2015-5038 (https://dx.doi.org/10.3133/sir20155038). The data sets and calibrations from the Minnesota statewide...

1: Model Archive: Simulation of Rhodamine Dye Concentration and Larval Drift, Kootenai River, Idaho. This archive contains results of lagrangian particle-tracking (LPT) simulations of both the dispersal of rhodamine dye and larval drift. The LPT model is a research effort and the simulations here provide some of the first experimental validation of the results for dispersal of a conservative constituent (Rhodamine WT-20). The larval drift simulations however have not been validated and the results should be viewed in this context. The simulations may contain 20 - 30 Gb of results. The archive is split into child-items to help distinguish the individual components of the archive and make downloading of large files...
This data release includes data containing projections of unimpaired hydrology, reservoir storage, and downstream managed flows in the Sacramento River/San Joaquin River watershed under scenarios of future climate change generated for the CASCaDE2 project (Computational Assessments of Scenarios of Change for the Delta Ecosystem, phase 2). Code used to produce the data is also included. The dataset is produced using a multiple-model approach. First, downscaled global climate model outputs are used to drive an existing Variable Infiltration Capacity/Variable Infiltration Capacity Routing (VIC/RVIC) model of Sacramento/San Joaquin hydrology, resulting in projections of daily, unimpaired flows throughout the watershed....

A soil-water balance model (SWB) was developed to estimate potential recharge to the Interstate 94 Corridor surficial aquifer, located in central Minnesota, for the period 2010 through 2014. The model was not calibrated; however, various water budget components from the model output compared reasonably well with other estimates. Furthermore, the model was based upon the statewide Minnesota SWB potential recharge model, described, calibrated, and documented as part of U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Report 2015-5038 (http://dx.doi.org/10.3133/sir20155038). The model was used to estimate recharge to the surficial aquifer system as part of a preliminary water budget exercise described in the associated...

A mechanistic, biophysical water-quality model (CE–QUAL–W2) was developed and calibrated for Lake St. Croix, Wisconsin and Minnesota. The Lake St. Croix CE–QUAL–W2 model was simulated and calibrated using data collected from April through November 2013. Loads developed for the model were based on water-quality data collected by various agencies, including the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The calibrated model was used to evaluate good- and optimal-growth habitat availability for lake sturgeon using coldwater fish oxygen and thermal requirements, as part of the associated report, U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Report 2017-5157 (http://dx.doi.org/10.3133/SIR20175157).
