These are shapefiles and ARC/INFO coverages of coal fields and coal-bearing formations in the Colorado Plateau. These GIS layers were created by combining numerous ARC/INFO coverages created for the Colorado Plateau coal assessment. The coal field outlines are approximate boundaries based on criteria provided below under Data Quality Information, Process Steps. These coal field outlines may not overlap exactly with other published coal field boundaries or with criteria used in the geochemistry data. We used existing polygons taken from numerous digital geologic maps, as described in Process Steps, but did not use overburden cutoffs.

These are shapefiles and coverages of final unioned polygon coverages used to calculate coal resources of the Cameo/Fairfield coal group east of 107 deg 15' longitude, and the Cameo/Wheeler, South Canyon, and Coal Ridge coal zones west of 107 deg 15' longitude in the southern Piceance Basin, northwestern Colorado. Pscbfing was used for the area east of 107 deg 15' longitude; pscwfing was used for the Cameo/Wheeler coal zone; psscfing was used for the South Canyon coal zone; pscrfing was used for the Coal Ridge coal zone. Polygons that make up the final unioned polygons include counties, 7.5' quadrangles, townships, surface and coal ownership, reliability, and, overburden. The final unioned coverage for each coal...

These are shapefiles and coverages that represent areas of combined State and Federal coal leases and mined-out areas in the Yampa coal field. Yamaleasg contains polygons for which resources were not calculated for the A coal zone. Yambleasg contains polygons for which resources were not calculated for the B coal zone, etc.

This is a shapefile and the final unioned polygon coverage used to calculate coal resources of the lower Blackhawk Formation in the southern Wasatch coal assessment area. Polygons that make up the final unioned polygons include counties, 7.5' quadrangles, townships, surface and coal ownership, reliability, overburden categories, and net coal thickness categories. The final unioned coverage was clipped by the resource boundary polygon, which is described in the metadata file for the shapefile WS_BND.

These are shapefiles and ARC/INFO polygon coverages showing the isopachs of total net coal in beds greater than or equal to 1.2' thick for the A, B, C, and D coal zones in the Williams Fork Formation, Yampa coal field, northwestern Colorado. YAMATHKG is for the A coal zone, YAMBTHKG is for the B coal zone, etc.

These are shapefiles and ARC/INFO coverages that outline the areas within which coal resources are calculated and reported for the A/B through G coal zones, Danforth Hills coal field. The shapefile DANABBNDG is the defining resource polygon for the A and B coal zones; DANCbndg is the defining resource polygon for the C coal zone, and so on.

These are shape files of final unioned polygon coverages used to calculate coal resources of the B and D coal zones, Lower White River coal field, Deserado assessment area, northwestern Colorado. Desbfing was used for the B coal zone; Desdfing was used for the D coal zone. Polygons that make up the final unioned polygons include counties, 7.5' quadrangles, townships, surface and coal ownership, lease area, overburden, and coal thickness categories. The final coverages were clipped to the resource areas for each coal zone, which are described in the metadata files for the des_bnd coverages.

This is a shapefile and the final unioned polygon coverage used to calculate coal resources of the Fruitland Formation, San Juan Basin coal assessment area, Colorado and New Mexico. Polygons that make up the final unioned polygons include counties, 7.5' quadrangles, townships, surface and coal ownership, reliability, overburden categories, and net coal thickness categories. The final unioned coverage was clipped by the resource boundary polygon, which is described in the metadata file for the shapefile SJB_BND.

These are shapefiles and ARC/INFO polygon coverages showing the isopachs of total net coal in beds greater than or equal to 1 ft thick for the Cameo/Fairfield coal group and for the Cameo/Wheeler, South Canyon, and Coal Ridge coal zones, southern Piceance Basin coal assessment area. Also included are isopachs of total net coal in beds 1-2.3 ft thick, 2.3-3.5, 3.5-7.0, and 7.0-14, and greater than 14 ft thick in the Cameo/Wheeler coal zone.

This is a shape file and coverage of the top of the Rollins Sandstone Member. It outlines the area underlain by the coal-bearing Cameo/Fairfield coal group in the southern Piceance Basin coal assessment area. Also, it delimits the area within which resources were calculated and reported in the southern Piceance Basin coal assessment area. The polygon was adjusted to match the topography of the DEM.

This is a shapefile and point coverage of 627 data points used in the assessment of coal in the southern Piceance Basin study area. Information in this file includes x, y location and point identifier. Lithologic and stratigraphic data and the geographic distribution of coal are based on our interpretations of geophysical logs from 526 drill holes as well as published lithologic descriptions from 31 coal exploration holes and 70 published stratigraphic sections described from outcrops.
