This dataset depicts staffed visitor stations within the Pacific Southwest Region of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Staffed visitor stations may be refuge offices that are open to the public during specified hours, or may be dedicated visitor centers. This dataset does not include kiosks or other areas which contain information for visitors but are not staffed. The locations of these stations are based on the USFWS Corporate Master Table, with additional editing and updates based on the input of field and visitor services staff.

This polygon depicts the area open for waterfowl hunting at Salinas River NWR. This dataset is used for mapping purposes only and all hunters should consult the refuge prior to engaging in hunting. Hunting seasons and other restrictions apply.

This map layer consists of federally owned or administered lands of the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. For the most part, only areas of 320 acres or more are included; some smaller areas deemed to be important or significant are also included. There may be private inholdings within the boundaries of Federal lands in this map layer. Some established Federal lands which are larger than 320 acres are not included in this map layer, because their boundaries were not available from the owning or administering agency.

Vegetation and land cover dataset for Clear Lake NWR. This dataset was created through interpretation of National Agricultural Imagery Program photography from 2014 and 2012. Specifically, 2012 was used as the base year because it is more representative of the "normal" condition than 2014. In 2014 the refuge and region were in the midst of the worst droughts in history and water levels had fallen to record low levels. Interpretation was informed by a field visit in the fall of 2014 and also through consultation with field staff. Additionally, data in the Peninsula unit were improved with field sampled results from the summer of 2010. Because extensive field sampling was not conducted for the entire refuge and no...

This map layer shows Indian lands of the United States. For the most part, only areas of 320 acres or more are included; some smaller areas deemed to be important or significant are also included. Federally-administered lands within a reservation are included for continuity; these may or may not be considered part of the reservation and are simply described with their feature type and the administrating Federal agency. Some established Indian lands which are larger than 320 acres are not included in this map layer because their boundaries were not available from the owning or administering agency.

Abstract (From http://www.ecologyandsociety.org/vol20/iss4/art14/): National Wildlife Refuges (NWRs) in the United States play an important role in the adaptation of social-ecological systems to climate change, land-use change, and other global-change processes. Coastal refuges are already experiencing threats from sea-level rise and other change processes that are largely beyond their ability to influence, while at the same time facing tighter budgets and reduced staff. We engaged in workshops with NWR managers along the U.S. Atlantic coast to understand the problems they face from global-change processes and began a multidisciplinary collaboration to use decision science to help address them. We are applying a...

This layer is based on the Approved Acquisition Boundary maintained by the USFWS Division of Realty and modified by Pek Pum of the San Diego National Wildlife Refuge Complex. Â The Approved Acquisition Boundary was broken into two units: Â the Otay-Sweetwater Unit and the Vernal Pools Stewardship Project.AbstractThis data describes the Approved Acquisition Boundary of National Wildlife Refuges in Region 8 where the environmental planning process, an Executive Order, or other governmental act has concluded that the land within the boundary would benefit the conservation of wildlife. An approved refuge boundary only designates those lands which the Fish and Wildlife Service has authority to acquire and/or manage through...
Populations of Greater Sage-grouse have declined across the entire range of the species and habitat loss is considered to be the most important factor contributing to these declines (e.g., Connelly et al. 2004). Agricultural conversion, energy development, feral horses, and livestock grazing are hypothesized to contribute to habitat related threats (Range wide interagency sage grouse conservation team 2012). Substantial research has been completed to assess the effects of energy development (e.g., Walker et al. 2007) and agricultural conversion (e.g., Aldridge et al. 2008), yet, little research has been devoted to understanding the impacts of grazing by feral horses and livestock on sage-grouse demography. The Sheldon-Hart...

This data set consists of federally owned land polygon features of the United States. The data set was created by extracting federal land polygon features from the individual 1:2,000,000-scale State boundary Digital Line Graph (DLG) files produced by the U.S. Geological Survey. These files were then appended into a single coverage. This is a revised version of the June 1998 data set. There may be private inholdings within the boundaries of Federal Lands in this data set. These data are intended for geographic display and analysis at the national level, and for large regional areas. The data should be displayed and analyzed at scales appropriate for 1:2,000,000-scale data. No responsibility is assumed by the U.S....
