This dataset provides results of a targeted bacterial community metagenomic analysis of surface water, groundwater, and sand samples at Jeorse Park on Lake Michigan in East Chicago, Indiana. Seventy-two samples were collected from 6 sites in 2017. Samples were analyzed for the 16S ribosomal RNA (16S rRNA) gene (the S in 16S refers to the rate of sedimentation, in Svedberg units, of the RNA molecule in a centrifugal field), and one sample was excluded because it produced too few reads. The 16S rRNA gene is the most conserved of three rRNA genes (16S, 23S, and 5S) and is considered the most reliable for identification and taxonomic classification of bacterial species (Bouchet and others, 2008). Taxonomic analysis...
Water velocities and water-quality constituents were measured along planned survey lines, which were generally perpendicular to the shoreline and spaced 100 meters apart, over an approximately 2.3-mile section of nearshore Lake Erie on June 10-12, 2019 (survey 1), and August 19-21, 2019 (survey 2), using a 1200 kHz acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP), a YSI 6920 V2 multiparameter sonde, and a YSI EcoMapper autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV). Water-quality data collected in this area included near-surface and three-dimensional measurements of water temperature, specific conductance, pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, chlorophyll, and phycocyanin (blue-green algae). The data were geo-referenced with an integrated...

Groundwater and surface-water samples were collected and analyzed for microbial source tracking markers to identify the primary sources of fecal bacteria at a Lake Michigan beach in Northwestern Indiana.
Water-quality constituents were measured along planned survey lines, which were generally perpendicular to the shoreline and spaced 100 meters apart, over an approximately 2.3-mile section of nearshore Lake Erie on June 10-12, 2019 (survey 1), and August 19-21, 2019 (survey 2), with a YSI EcoMapper autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) using an undulating dive pattern (a 15-degree dive angle between the surface and 6 feet above the bottom). Water-quality data collected in this area included three-dimensional measurements of water temperature, specific conductance, pH, dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll, and phycocyanin (blue-green algae). The water-quality data were measured at 1-second intervals and were geo-referenced...
This data release includes data from 1996-2005 for the Louisiana Barrier Island Comprehensive Monitoring Program. Specifically, this data release includes general habitat maps for West Chenier Plain, Early Lafourche Delta, Late Lafourche Delta, Modern Delta, Chandeleur Islands Regions. Please consult the accompanying readME.txt file for information and recommendations on the contents of this dataset (that is, dataset and recommended symbology).

Water velocities were measured along planned survey lines, which were generally perpendicular to the shoreline and spaced 100 meters apart, over an approximately 2.3-mile section of nearshore Lake Erie on June 10-12, 2019 (survey 1), and August 19-21, 2019 (survey 2), using a 1200 kHz acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP). The data were geo-referenced with an integrated global navigation satellite system (GNSS) smart antenna with submeter accuracy. The ADCP and GNSS antenna were mounted on a marine survey vessel, and data were collected as the survey vessel traversed the lake along planned survey lines. There was a total of 43 survey lines which typically started about 50 meters offshore and ended 500 meters...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, collected data in 2017 to study the sources and occurrences of continual detections of high Escherichia coli (E. coli) detections at urban beaches along the Lake Michigan shoreline in northwest Indiana and northeastern Illinois. High E. coli detections cause the beaches to be closed for recreational use until additional samples verify that E. coli levels have fallen below the threshold of 235 counts per 100 ml. The project used microbial source tracking (MST) and metagenomics analyses to evaluate the sources of E. coli. This data release provides the phytoplankton, mictobial source tracking, and metagenomics components...
This dataset describes the identification of phytoplankton to the lowest taxonomic level (typically species), as well as abundance (density) and biovolume from grab samples collected from Lake Michigan at Jackson Park at Hyde Park, Illinois and Lake Michigan at Jeorse Park at Gary, Indiana.
Water-quality constituents were measured along planned survey lines, which were generally perpendicular to the shoreline and spaced 100 meters apart, over an approximately 2.3-mile section of nearshore Lake Erie on June 10-12, 2019 (survey 1), and August 19-21, 2019 (survey 2), using a YSI 6920 V2 multiparameter sonde towed from the side of a marine survey vessel at about 1-ft depth. Water-quality data collected in this area included near-surface measurements of water temperature, specific conductance, pH, dissolved oxygen, and turbidity. The water-quality data were measured at 5-second intervals and were geo-referenced with a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) smart antenna with submeter accuracy. There...

Continuous measurements of nearshore currents in Lake Erie in the vicinity of Villa Angela Beach and Euclid Creek, Cleveland, Ohio, were recorded during the summer of 2019. Currents were measured every 15 minutes with a 5-minute averaging interval using two different acoustic Doppler velocity meters (ADVM). The first instrument (ADVM 1) was a SonTek 500 kHz Argonaut-SL ADVM mounted to the northwest side of the southwest caisson near the entrance of Wildwood Marina about 8 feet above the bed (approximately mid-depth at the time of installation) at a true heading of 307 degrees. ADVM 1 was configured with a 6.6-ft blanking distance, ten 33-ft measurement cells, and a total profiling distance of 335 feet from the face...
