The Critical Minerals in Archived Mine Samples Database (CMDB) contains chemistry and geologic information for historic ore and ore-related rock samples from mineral deposits in the United States. In addition, the database contains samples from archetypal deposits from 27 other countries in North America, South America, Asia, Africa and Europe. Samples were obtained from archived ore collections under the U.S. Geological Survey's project titled "Quick Assessment of Rare and Critical Metals in Ore Deposits: A National Assessment" (2008 to 2013) in an effort to begin an assessment of the Nations' previously mined ore deposits for critical minerals. Mineralized and altered rock samples were provided by the Colorado...

This data release documents proposed updates to geologic inputs (faults) for the upcoming 2023 National Seismic Hazard Model (NSHM). This version (1.0) conveys differences between 2014 NSHM fault sources and those recently released in the earthquake geology inputs for the U.S. National Seismic Hazard Model (NSHM) 2023, version 1.0 data release by Hatem et al. (2021). A notable difference between the 2014 and 2023 datasets is that slip rates are provided at points for 2023 instead of generalized along the entire fault section length as in 2014; consequently, slip rates are not provided for fault sections in the draft 2023 dataset. Geospatial data (shapefile, kml and geojson) are provided in this data release with...

This dataset includes hourly stream temperature data for 139 temperature logger sites throughout the Lahontan Basin Region of Northern Nevada and Eastern California. Data loggers were part a study beginning in 2017, with data available through 2019 for most locations. The spatial data layer contains site locations, geographic information, data summaries, mean August stream temperatures, and modeled NorWeST stream temperatures. The Wet-Dry delineation file contains daily flow status estimates derived from stream temperature data for each site. The Site Visit file contains the date and time of the site visit along with associated information on site flow conditions, water depths, logger conditions, and stream logger...

This dataset consists of point gravity station data for 95 stations in the middle Carson River basin as published on figure 7 in the U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Report 2011-5055. The points have values of the complete Bouguer anomaly and observed gravity. In addition, 641 selected gravity stations from the U.S. Geological Survey Data Series 42 titled "Gravity data of Nevada" used in this study are included for reference and users are advised to reference that publication for information on those data. This dataset consists of polyline estimates of the thickness of basin-fill sediments at 200-foot contour intervals for the middle Carson River basin as published on figure 9 in the U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Report 2011-5055. The estimates were made using gravity data collected at 736 stations in the middle Carson River basin reduced to a residual complete Bouguer anomaly. A relation between residual gravity and depth to bedrock was developed from descriptions on drillers logs of 25 wells that encountered bedrock.

This dataset consists of points representing selected well site locations and water-level measurements used by Lopes and Allander (2009) to develop autumn 2006 groundwater-level altitude contours for Smith and Mason Valleys, and the lower Walker River basin, Nevada. Since the publication of Lopes and Allander (2009), the positional coordinates and land-surface altitudes at selected well sites used to develop autumn 2006 groundwater-level contours in that report were updated as part of a 2022 U.S. Geological Survey study (Davies and Naranjo, 2022).

This dataset consists of a polyline representing a groundwater divide for spring 1972, Smith Valley, Nevada digitized from plate 2 of the 1976 publication: Rush, F.E.,and Schroer, C.V., 1976, Geohydrology of Smith Valley, Nevada with special reference to the water-use period 1953-72: Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Water Resources Bulletin 43, 43p.

This data set consists of polylines representing groundwater-level altitude contours, 1982, for middle Humboldt River basin, north-central Nevada as published on plate 2, figure 3 in the U.S. Geological Survey Water-Resources Investigations Report 98-4209 titled "Hydrogeologic framework and ground-water levels, 1982 and 1996, middle Humboldt River basin, north-central Nevada," 1999. A subset of the contours were published as part of a larger data set representing water-table contours for Nevada (Buto and others, 2006). The remaining contours have been added to complete this data set. The polygon (vector) shapefile represents Public Land Survey System (PLSS) sections, or 1-square mile areas of land, with information about Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land and mineral use authorizations for mining claims. For each section, the number of claims (by type) was determined and a density (by claim type) was calculated. The land areas specified by BLM authorizations vary in size and orientation, and may cross PLSS section boundaries. For spatial consistency, the information was aggregated to the square mile PLSS section boundary. The original source data from BLM Cases Recordation database (LR2000) were specific to the day they were generated (March 6, 2016) and subsequent data pulls will likely be...

Mule deer in the Izzenhood herd are part of a larger population known in Nevada as the “Area 6” mule deer population. They primarily reside on winter ranges in the Izzenhood Basin and upper Rock Creek drainages in western Elko County and northern Lander County. From their winter range, mule deer in this sub population migrate approximately 70 miles to summer ranges in the northern Independence Mountains and Bull Run Basin area. Some of the most important stopover areas are located near upper Rock Creek, Toe Jam Mountain, and Chicken Creek Summit. Challenges to this deer herd include past wildfires on winter range, conversion of native shrub habitats to exotic annual grasses, and lower primary production in some...

Mule deer in the South Tuscarora herd are part of the larger “Area 6” deer population that reside in the southern and eastern portion of this big game Management Area (MA 6). The winter range for this sub population is located along the western slopes of the Tuscarora Mountains and the Dunphy Hills. The spring migration route for this deer herd traverses north along the toe slopes of the Tuscarora Mountains on the east side and narrows to approximately 600 meters at one pinch point near the Carlin -Pete Mine area. The migration route generally spans about 30 miles to the northeast to higher elevations in the northern Tuscarora Mountains. Important stopover areas include Richmond Mountain, Jack and Little Jack Creeks,...
The Loyalton mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus) herd winters west and northwest of Reno, Nevada along the California-Nevada border, extending into the Peterson Mountains, east of Highway 395 in Nevada. A portion of the herd also winters north of I-80 on Peavine Mountain in Nevada. This population represents an interstate migratory herd but also contains year-round residents in both states. Deer migrate southwest into the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California on both sides of Highway 89 from Truckee to Sierraville, mostly staying north of I-80 and into the Tahoe National Forest. Significant challenges include urban development, vehicle collisions on Highways 89, 395, and I80, and large-scale wildfires that have burned...

nv_lvl6_coarsescale: Nevada hierarchical cluster level 6 (coarse-scale) for Greater sage-grouse We developed a hierarchical clustering approach that identifies biologically relevant landscape units that can 1) be used as a long-term population monitoring framework, 2) be repeated across the Greater sage-grouse range, 3) be used to track the outcomes of local and regional populations by comparing population changes across scales, and 4) be used to inform where to best spatially target studies that identify the processes and mechanisms causing population trends to change among spatial scales. The spatial variability in the amount and quality of habitat resources can affect local population success and result in different...

Overview This directory was developed to provide discovery information for anyone looking for publicly accessible repositories that house geological materials in the U.S. and Canada. In addition, this resource is intended to be a tool to facilitate a community of practice. The need for the directory was identified during planning for and follow-up from a drill core repository webinar series in Spring 2020 for public repository curators and staff in the U.S. and Canada hosted by the Minnesota Geological Survey and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Additional supporting sponsors included the U.S. Geological Survey National Geological and Geophysical Data Preservation Program and the Association of American...
