This dataset is the digital compilation of geologic and resource maps provided mostly by State geologic surveys and depicts the projected area of occurrence of the Upper Freeport coal bed. The Upper Freeport coal bed is in Ohio, West Virginia, western Pennsylvania, and western Maryland. The coal bed may extend into eastern Kentucky, but correlations are highly uncertain and do not warrant extrapolation south of the areas shown on this map at this time. This dataset represents the extent of the Upper Freeport coal bed used in the Apalachian coal region assessment. The file has been generalized from detailed geologic coverages found elsewhere in Professional Paper 1625-C.

These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release. This coverage was derived from U.S. Geological Survey National Elevation Dataset (NED) Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) for all of Ohio and portions of Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New York. The dataset is a raster grid coverage representing a 30 meter grid cell size, or 1-arc second, and is in units of decimeters. The various NED source datasets used to create this dataset came primarily from state...

The U.S. Geological Survey's National Water-Use Information Program is responsible for compiling and disseminating the nation's water-use data. The USGS works in cooperation with local, State, and Federal environmental agencies to collect water-use information. USGS compiles these data to produce water-use information aggregated at the county, state, and national levels. Every five years, data at the county level are compiled into...

This coverage contains land-cover information for all of Ohio and portions of Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New York. This dataset was derived from the U.S. Geological Survey's National Land Cover Dataset (NLCD). NLCD raster grids were downloaded from the USGS EROS Data Center web server at http://landcover.usgs.gov/natllandcover.html, by state. These grids were then reprojected, mosaiced and clipped...

This dataset provides a U.S. national 60-m, 19-class mapping of anthropogenic land uses for five time periods: 1974-1982-1992-2002-2012. The 2012 dataset is based on a slightly modified version of the National Land Cover Database 2011 (NLCD 2011) that was recoded to a schema of land uses, and mapped back in time to develop datasets for the four earlier eras. The time periods coincide with years in which U.S. Department of Agriculture...
This dataset is a polygon coverage of counties limited to the extent of the Upper Freeport coal bed resource areas and attributed with original resources (millions of short tons) in aggregated reporting categories as described in USGS Circular 891. The file has been generalized from detailed geologic coverages found elsewhere in Professional Paper 1625-C.

The locations of approximately 23,000 current and historical U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) streamgages in the United States and Puerto Rico (with the exception of Alaska) have been snapped to the medium resolution National Hydrography Dataset (NHD). The NHD contains geospatial information about mapped surface-water features, such as streams, lakes, and reservoirs, etc., creating a hydrologic network that can be used to determine...

This map layer contains the shallowest principal aquifers of the conterminous United States, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, portrayed as polygons. The map layer was developed as part of the effort to produce the maps published at 1:2,500,000 in the printed series "Ground Water Atlas of the United States". The published maps contain base and cultural features not included in these data. This is a replacement for the July 1998 map layer called Principal Aquifers of the 48 Conterminous United States.

This vector coverage of hydrography centerlines was derived from the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD), and encompasses all of Ohio and portions of Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New York. This coverage is comprised of 105 Catalog Units (CUs) obtained from http://nhd.usgs.gov/. Each CU approximately represents a single 8-digit Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC).

As part of the U.S. Geological Survey’s Groundwater Resources Program study of the Appalachian Plateaus aquifers, estimates of annual water-budget components were determined at 849 continuous-record streamflow gaging stations from Mississippi to New York. Base flow, which can serve as a proxy for annual recharge, streamflow, and runoff were estimated from computer programs—PART (Rutledge, 1993), HYSEP (Sloto and Crouse, 1996), and...
