This Data Release provides tabular and geospatial data digitized by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) from a U.S. Bureau of Mines (USBoM) report titled Mineral Investigation of Sangre de Cristo Wilderness Study Area, Alamosa, Custer, Fremont, Huerfano, and Saguache Counties, Colorado. The original preliminary paper report, numbered Mineral Land Assessment 65-83 (MLA 65-83; Ellis and others, 1983), presented the results of a mineral resource potential survey of areas in and around the Sangre de Cristo Range flanking the northeastern extent of San Luis Valley in south-central Colorado. Included in this Data Release are georeferenced scans of the regional plate maps, digitized sample site locations, analytical...

Geochemical data include major, minor and trace element results for 42 alkaline silicate igneous rock samples. Samples were collected from natural exposures/outcrops during field work in the Central Montana Alkaline Province (CMAP) during the summer of 2022. All samples were analyzed by the U.S. Geological Survey contract laboratory, SGS Labs. Major, minor, and trace elements were determined via wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence (WDXRF), inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) and inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Additional analytes determined were carbonate carbon by combustion and infrared detection (IR); gold, platinum, and palladium by lead fusion fire...

The dataset covers X-ray diffraction (XRD) applied for mineral determination in shales from the Utica, Excello, Niobrara, and Monterey formations. The XRD was performed prior to modified Rock-Eval pyrolysis, reflectance, organic petrology, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) being employed to analyze geochemical properties; gas adsorption (CO2 and N2) was used to characterize pore structures.

The data release for Gospel-Hump Wilderness Area and the Magruder Corridor and Special Mining Management Zone Additions to the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness Area, and adjacent areas Idaho and Montana, contains a subset of previously unpublished geochemical data from the 1979-1984 projects. In the case of Gospel-Hump Wilderness Area study (Lund and Esparza, 1990), the purpose of the project was to determine petrologic and geochemical characteristics and to investigate effects of historic mine drainage in the study area. Data for the Magruder Corridor Addition reflect rock geochemistry to document petrologic and geochemical characteristics (Mosier and others, 1981; Lund and others, 1992). Included in...

This table contains geochemical data collected for whole-rock samples from the Columbia River Basalt Group in the western Columbia River Gorge in Oregon and Washington. Most samples were collected by Russell C. Evarts and Richard M. Conrey from 2002 to 2014. Samples were collected during traverses along roads, streams, ridgecrests, and other areas as part of ongoing geologic mapping. Additional samples were provided by Marvin H. Beeson. Major- and trace-element analyses were performed by X-ray fluorescence at the Peter Hooper GeoAnalytical Laboratory at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington. No normalization has been applied to these data.

These data are derived from pumice and scoria from Pacheco stage (as defined by Harpel et al., 2021) tephra-fall deposits (TFD) emplaced between <21 ka and 2 ka by eruptions from Misti volcano, Arequipa, southern Peru. For each unit, these data derived from electron microprobe analysis include major-element analyses for glass, amphibole, plagioclase, orthopyroxene, clinopyroxene, Fe-Ti oxides, and, where present, olivine. Whole-rock major and trace element concentrations for each unit were determined by X-ray fluorescence. These data support detailed petrologic analysis of each Pacheco stage unit presented elsewhere. Any use of trade, firm, or product names is for descriptive purposes only and does not imply endorsement...
