Global Geochemical Database for Critical Minerals in Archived Mine Samples

The Critical Minerals in Archived Mine Samples Database (CMDB) contains chemistry and geologic information for historic ore and ore-related rock samples from mineral deposits in the United States. In addition, the database contains samples from archetypal deposits from 27 other countries in North America, South America, Asia, Africa and Europe. Samples were obtained from archived ore collections under the U.S. Geological Survey's project titled "Quick Assessment of Rare and Critical Metals in Ore Deposits: A National Assessment" (2008 to 2013) in an effort to begin an assessment of the Nations' previously mined ore deposits for critical minerals. Analyses of historic U.S. Bureau of Mines rock and heavy mineral concentrate samples for geochemical trace-element and rare-earth element data--Ray Mountains and Kanuti-Hodzana uplands area, Alaska

Re-analyses of sample pulps and bulk rejects from historic USBM rock and heavy-mineral-concentrate samples were conducted by the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) as part of the State of Alaska's Strategic and Critical Minerals Assessment project, which is designed to evaluate Alaska's potential for these resources. The objective of this resource assessment is to expand the state's geochemical database by obtaining and publishing modern, quantitative geochemical analyses for historic USBM samples, where available. Highlights of this re-analysis project include heavy mineral concentrates with up 7,220 ppm Sn, 5,870 ppm Cr, and 17,000 ppm Mn.

Geochemical data used in the tungsten skarn mineral resource assessment of the Great Basin region of western Nevada and eastern California

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has undertaken a mineral resources assessment for tungsten for a portion of the Great Basin in parts of western Nevada and east-central California. TIMA-X bright phase analysis of platinum-group minerals in selected samples from the Chrome and Iron Mountain areas of the Stillwater Complex, Montana

Sulfide- and chromite-bearing samples of the Basal and Ultramafic series of the Stillwater Complex are known to contain elevated concentrations of platinum-group elements (PGE). Thin sections were prepared from drill core and surface samples from the Chrome and Iron Mountain areas. Core samples are from exploration drilling programs by AMAX in the 1960s and 1970s and Beartooth Platinum in 2004-2007. These mineral occurrences include mined deposits, exploration prospects, and other occurrences with notable concentrations of rhenium. Legacy Geochemical Data from Hardcopy Records of Selected Past U.S. Geological Survey Projects

This data release contains geochemical data from selected U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) projects from the 1960s-1980s that were previously unpublished as digital data. The objective of those projects was to describe the geology, determine petrologic and geochemical characteristics, or to evaluate the mineral resource potential of Federal Lands and adjacent study areas. These data comprise geochemical analyses from 36,498 samples--27,223 rock samples, 4,091 sediment samples, 2,351 soil samples, 330 heavy-mineral pan concentrate samples, 297 organic material samples, 58 mineral samples, 27 water samples, 11 miscellaneous samples, and 2,110 unspecified media samples. Mineral-resources personnel from the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) carried out a helicopter-supported geological and geochemical resource assessment project in the Beaver, Bettles, Livengood, and Tanana quadrangles from June 23 through August 5, 2012. The objectives of DGGS's resource assessment are to improve the trace-element geochemical coverage of selected watersheds; to obtain modern, quantitative geochemical analyses; to understand the petrogenesis of the granites; and to better document established mineral occurrences.
