This feature contains a spatial representation of streams and stream segments with water quality information from Oregon’s 2010 Integrated Report Assessment Database and 303(d) List as approved by EPA on March 15, 2012. This feature should be used in conjunction with the feature ORLakesWaterQuality_2010. A water body may have assessment information for multiple pollutants or conditions, and may have multiple data records associated with the spatial representation of the water body or segment of the water body. This article is the first part of a study dealing with current and prospective clean coal technologies. For this purpose, the importance of coal utilization in electricity production and the importance of clean coal technologies (CCTs) for the minimization of the environmental impacts of coal-fired power generation are discussed as an introduction to the subject. The article includes an extensive presentation about the source and formation mechanisms of the major pollutants and their control strategies. Stream-bed sediment for the size fraction less than 150 μm, examined in 14,000 samples collected mostly from minor tributaries to the major rivers throughout the Mississippi River drainage system, is composed of 5 mineral fractions identified by factor analysis—Al-silicate minerals, quartz, calcite and dolomite, heavy minerals, and an Fe–Mn fraction. The Al-silicate fraction parallels its distribution in the regolith, emphasizing the local sediment source as a primary control to its distribution. Coastal communities are uniquely vulnerable to sea-level rise (SLR) and severe storms such as hurricanes. These events enhance the dispersion and concentration of natural and anthropogenic chemicals and pathogenic microorganisms that could adversely affect the health and resilience of coastal communities and ecosystems in coming years. This data set shows the locations of more than 35,000 industrial facilities in North America that reported releases and (or) transfers of pollutants in 2005. The data were assembled from the three North American countries’ Pollutant Release and Transfer Registers (PRTRs): the National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI) in Canada, the Registro de Emisiones y Transferencias de Contaminantes (RETC) in Mexico, and the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) in the United States.         Additional information on North American pollutant releases and transfers is available through the Commission for Environmental Cooperation’s Taking Stock web site at http://www.cec.org/takingstock/.
