The Aquatic Core Networks, Unstratified is comprised of unstratified versions of Lotic Core Areas and Lentic Core Areas. These datasets are one of two versions of aquatic core areas that are part of a suite of products from Nature’s Network (naturesnetwork.org). Nature’s Network is a collaborative effort to identify shared priorities for conservation in the Northeast, considering the value of fish and wildlife species and the natural areas they inhabit. The polygon feature class is composed of National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) Plus Polygons and where the NHD Plus layer was insufficient, water bodies were digitized from 2010 National Agricultural Inventory Program (NAIP) 10 meter aerial imagery.

The Hydrology Polygon Feature Class defines areas of open water features on RSL. The polygon feature class is composed of National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) Plus Polygons and where the NHD Plus layer was insufficient, water bodies were digitized from 2010 National Agricultural Inventory Program (NAIP) 1 meter aerial imagery. Areas of open water are known to fluctuate based on rainfall and other factors, and therefore this dataset may not be accurate for other time periods.

The Yellowknife Study Area (YSA), Northwest Territories, Canada, was established in 1961 by H. W. Murdy, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, for the study of wetland and waterfowl ecology. The study area is located on the western edge of the Precambrian Shield and edge of the taiga and is recognized for its high wetland densities and waterfowl abundance. The region is underlain by discontinuous, warm permafrost and hence vulnerable to a warming climate. The completion of Highway 3 in early 1960s provided the first access to the region for development, research, and monitoring. Water, sediment, anuran food (leaf litter and detritus) and whole body larval amphibian composites were analyzed for over 100 current-use pesticides from 24 wetlands representing land-use gradients in the New Jersey Pinelands, USA during 2014-2016. Emerging amphibian pathogens, Ranavirus and Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd) were also assessed in individual larvae at the 24 wetlands. Tables in this data release contain the results from these analyses, with quality assurance summaries, along with site information, including land-use classifications.

This database contains breeding pond use data (i.e., egg mass and larval abundance counts) of three ambystomatid salamander species (Spotted salamander, Jefferson salamander, and marbled salamander) collected from 200 individual aquatic habitats (ponds, wetlands, and impoundments) in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation. Data were collected between the years 2001 and 2003. The database contains three separate table files (i.e., entities) in csv format: 1) Salamander egg mass/larval abundance counts; 2) site habitat data; and 3) site location data. We developed a mapped classification of lakes and ponds based on variables that structure lacustrine natural communities and that could be mapped consistently across Northeastern US. The classification was built upon four key attributes: water temperature, trophic state, alkalinity, and depth. Water temperature was mapped into three classes (very cold, cold, and warm-cool) to reflect the requirements and limits of aquatic organisms.
