Study to help constrain 3-dimensional geologic maps of surficial materials in these glacial deposits
Hand-held magnetometer and sample magnetic susceptibilitymeasurements used to help interpret complex patterns in the magneticanomaly of this area.
Mathematical modeling and analysis of aeromagnetic anomaly data(gridded data provide in another report).
![]() In the early 20th century, approximately 6 million metric tons ofcopper ore were mined from numerous deposits located along theshorelines of fjords and islands in Prince William Sound, Alaska. Atthe Beatson, Ellamar, and Threeman mine sites (fig. 1), rockscontaining Fe, Cu, Zn, and Pb sulfide minerals are exposed tochemical weathering in abandoned mine workings and remnant wastepiles that extend into the littoral zone. Field investigations in2003 and 2005 as well as analytical data for rock, sediment, precipitate, water, and biological samples reveal that the oxidationof sulfides at these sites is resulting in the generation of acidmine drainage and the transport of metals into the marineenvironment
Multi-element geochemical analysis of host rock, ore, mine waste,flotation-mill tailings, slag, stream sediments, creek and aditwaters, and leachates of mine waste and mill tailings.
Gravity station data and hand-held magnetometer measurements withanalysis and description of methodology.
![]() Gravity map and data used to infer details of the geologic structure of the area. Surveys were conducted during or prior to 1975.
