This dataset contains reflectance and transmission spectra of unexpanded and expanded vermiculite ore, and handpicked flakes of phlogopite, hydrobiotite, and vermiculite. These samples were collected from mines near Enoree, South Carolina; Libby, Montana; Louisa, Virginia; Palabora, Llano, Texas; and South Africa. Spectra are identified as either reflectance or transmission in the alphanumeric file names and correlate to specpr record numbers designated in the manuscript figures in which they are shown. These transmission spectra were converted to absorbance in many of the figures. This dataset contains results from electron microprobe analyses for expanded and unexpanded vermiculite samples. These data are provide for samples of vermiculite ore, expanded vermiculite insulation, horticultural products, aggregate, and packing materials derived from mines near Enoree, South Carolina; Libby, Montana; Louisa, Virginia; Palabora, South Africa; Jiangsu, China; and Llano, Texas. An ASCII text file of results is provided in comma-separated by value (csv) format. The file has the name “vermiculite_probe_microanalyses_data.csv”.
This report provides detailed (1:63,360-scale) mapping of the Tanana A-1 and A-2 quadrangles (500 square miles; equivalent to eight 7.5-minute quadrangles). The area is part of the Manley Hot Springs-Tofty mining districts and adjacent to the Rampart mining district to the south of the Tanana B-1 Quadrangle. This report includes detailed bedrock, surficial, structural, and stratigraphic data. Based on the resulting geologic maps, field investigations, and laboratory materials analyses, the report also includes derivative maps of geologic construction materials and geologic hazards. The Cache Creek Settling Basin (CCSB) is a 13.3 km2 levee-bounded sediment retention basin located at the modern terminus of Cache Creek near the eastern boundary of Yolo County, approximately two miles NE of Woodland, California. The Cache Creek Settling Basin was constructed in 1937 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to trap suspended sediment from the upper Cache Creek watershed during high-flow events, with the purpose of preserving the floodway capacity of the Yolo Bypass, a larger leveed floodway located downstream. Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) has conducted 1:63,360-scale geologic mapping of the Sagavanirktok B-1 Quadrangle (640 square km�equivalent to four 7.5 minute quadrangles). This mapping project reinterprets micropaleontologic correlations for 17 Sagavanirktok Quadrangle wells, and reprocesses data from the one publicly-available seismic line. Surface geologic mapping, subsurface-to-surface stratigraphic age control, and seismic framework are required to reliably decipher the complex geology of this key area of the Brooks Range. Data are provide for four samples of unexpanded vermiculite ore from mines near Enoree, South Carolina; Libby, Montana; Louisa, Virginia; Palabora, and South Africa. ASCII text files listings of Mossbauer data for each sample are provided in comma-separated by value (csv) files. These files have the file naming structure sampleid_mossbauer_spectra.csv, where sampleid is a unique alphanumeric code for each sample. These samples were chosen as representative of the ores from their various mine sources, having documentation verifying that they were collected directly from their sources.
The State of Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) and Division of Oil & Gas (DOG) are currently engaged in a multi-year study of the hydrocarbon potential of the Tertiary and Mesozoic strata in Cook Inlet basin. Modal analyses and routine core analyses were performed on Tertiary and Mesozoic siltstones and sandstones collected during the 2007-2010 field seasons from six geographic areas in upper and lower Cook Inlet. The reservoir quality of Cook Inlet sandstones varies widely depending on their mineralogy, geologic age, burial depth, and depositional environment. This data release contains 60 detrital zircon age spectra, based on U and Pb isotope ratio measurements for 9399 single grains. The samples are from Paleogene strata of the U.S. Gulf Coast. Of the 9399 single grain measurements, we recommend that 8640 yield ages that are suitable for construction of detrital zircon age spectra. Comments tagged to individual grains explain the reasoning for exclusion of a single grain measurement from age spectra, mostly including high discordance and/or uncertainty. Human intervention in the hydrologic basin of the Colorado River has eliminated water discharge and sediment supply to the river's mouth and its delta. This data release contains zircon U-Pb (n=1467) and Hf (n=332) data for five modern rivers (Connecticut, Susquehanna, Roanoke, Peedee, and Chattahoochee) draining the Appalachian mountain belt. The data show that zircon crystallization ages are characterized by several discrete populations that often correspond with orogenic episodes in the Mesoproterozoic and Paleozoic, with distinct differences between the various rivers sampled. ɛHf values are more consistent geographically, but differ between the Grenville and Paleozoic (Taconic, Acadian, and Alleghenian) orogenies.
