Area statistics include total acreage, acres by managing agency, and percent access. These summaries are available for various units: National, State, Department of the Interior Region, Congressional District, County, Hydrologic Unit Code 12, EcoRegions I-IV, Urban Areas. Spatial analysis and statistical summaries of the Protected Areas Database of the United States (PAD-US) provide land managers and decision makers with a general assessment of management intent for biodiversity protection, natural resource management, and recreation access across the nation. Work completed by ANTHC has identified climate-related active and potential human health threats in three thematic areas: 1) Permafrost changes; 2) Habitat changes; 3) Impacts on wildlife. Rural villages in Arctic Alaska have requested, and received in-depth environmental health assessments, and adaptation strategies are in development. In response to these findings, ANTHC has developed the RAMP, and is collaborating with UA to develop relevant monitoring and surveillance tools for the thematic areas identified. Rural Arctic communities are vulnerable to climate change and residents seek adaptive strategies that will protect public health. In the Inupiat community of Selawik, climate change is impacting the weather, land, river, wildlife, plants, and the lives of the people who live there. This report identifies health concerns related to food and water security and community infrastructure. This report documents these issues as described by the local people and interpreted through the lens of public health. It is the fifth report in a series describing climate change in Northwest Alaska.
