We propose to use GPLCC capacity funds to help create The Nebraska Conservation Science Partnership (NCSP), a cooperative effort among the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, the Rainwater Basin Joint Venture (RWBJV), and the Nebraska Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit (NCFWRU). This partnership will provide capacity to analyze climate data relative to impacts on fish and wildlife within the Great Plains LCC, integrate existing habitat assessments, model species-habitat relations, and evaluate the potential impacts of land use change management activities, initially focusing primarily on wetland habitats. The funding requested from the GPLCC will be leveraged with funds from the RWBJV and the USGS Climate...
For over 100 years the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) has strived to conserve and enhance Kansas’ natural resources via habitat and population surveys/assessments, funding of applied management research, and the coordination and implementation of various habitat conservation programs on public and private land. KDWP has collected and/or funded the collection of wildlife population and wildlife habitat data for several decades. However, due to the advances in analytical modeling techniques and their requirements for spatially explicit data, much of the information collected over the past 100 years has limited usefulness with respect to current technology. In 2006 KDWP used State Wildlife Grant...
Landscape scale conservation requires the collaboration of multiple partners for success. A focus of the Landscape Conservation Cooperatives (LCC) is developing these partnerships and building the core capacities necessary in landscape scale conservation efforts. The NMDGF propose to develop a geographically referenced Document Based Decision Support System (DSS) that will help consolidate existing and new information generated by the Department or other appropriate sources. The proposed DSS will allow users to rapidly search and access the available discrete information sources related to a location. Initially, to test the utility of a DSS, NMDGF proposes to focus on the portion of the Great Plains LCC (GPLCC)...
Oklahoma encompasses portions of four Landscape Conservation Cooperatives (LCC’s) across the state and the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (ODWC) is a potential partner on each of these LCC Steering Committees. The largest commitment for ODWC participation will be with the Great Plains Landscape Conservation Cooperative (GPLCC) which is Oklahoma’s largest LCC in terms of geographic coverage. ODWC requests funding to build capacity within the agency in order to better serve as science partners with the GPLCC. The development and subsequent distribution of spatial products will be the primary function of the project. These products will include a 5-state LEPC decision support tool, Black-Tailed Prairie...
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is cooperating with private, state, and federal partners to produce a new land classification map for Texas, based on the NatureServe Ecological System Classification System as described by Comer (2003), with a spatial resolution of 1 acre. The basic steps are to identify mapping sub-systems using ecological systems as a starting point, to collect data from air photos and the field to implement a supervised classification on Landsat TM imagery, and to use ecoregions, SSURGO soils, DEM-based variables, and hydrology to help interpret the ecological meaning of final mapping targets. Mapping of Texas High Plains and western portions of the Southwestern Tablelands and part of...
