The oil and gas well cuttings collection consists of splits of cuttings from oil and gas wells. Most of the samples consist of small splits in small envelopes
Field notebooks belonging to retired PaGS geologist Rodger Faill. Five done by Michelle Bell under Faill's direction on Piedmont summer-fall 1992. Five on jack's mtn., triassic basin, general field trips 1965-1972 by Faill. Five done by Dave Valentino under Faill's direction for MA thesis on Piedmont 1987-1989. Three general/deformed fossils notebooks by Faill.various locations and dates. Belong to Rodger FaillThe oldest field notebooks from 1965-1972 are in worse shape having experienced some water damage from the 1972 Agnes flood. Some pages are faded and difficult to read.
The collection of hand samples was obtained from projects of the Massachusetts Water Resource Authority (MWRA) related to the construction of water and sewer lines, throughout mainly the eastern part of the state. The collection consists of 525 hand samples from which thin sections (525) were made; in addition, there are 21 boxes containing approximately 2 pound, hand samples from work on the Cosgrove Tunnel Project. The samples were collected by Father James Skehan and each chunk of rock has an identifier painted on it, referring to the station location. The thin sections and the hand samples are stored in cardboard boxes, on pallets, at the Record Center, on Deer Island in Boston Harbor. The condition of the collection...
Hand Samples stored in main Annex building, mostly from Illinois and neighboring states. Includes minerals, geodes, outcrop samples, sed. structures, industrial minerals, ore, and various personal and donated collections. Approx. 475 drawers, shelves, and bins These samples are loosely organized and located in numerous places throughout the Annex complex. Some are still in original bulk collection bags, others in drawers, bins, or shelves. Most are not cataloged. Some outcrop samples are cataloged, however about 30 shelves of boxed and numbered outcrop samples have no known catalog.
Fossil samples stored in the main Annex building cabinets. Primarily invertebrates collected by survey staff, this collection is a good representation of fossils from geographic areas and stratigraphic units in Illinois. The majority of samples are not cataloged; however most are physically arranged chronostratigraphically. Approximately 150,000 samples total, primarily Cambrian (1500), Ordovician (15,000), Silurian (17,000), Devonian (10,000), Mississippian (15,000), Pennsylvanian (77,000), and Tertiary/Cretaceous (100). Approximately 10,000 specimens are arranged by taxonomic group including brachiopods (7500), cephalopods (1000), and trilobites (2000). Paleontological Specimens - Annex Main A student is currently...
The SDF or Stratigraphic Data Files are a collection of paper drill records from thoughout Pennyslvania organized by 7.5 minute quadrangle. It is a prime source of subsurface lithology. Portions have been entered into the USGS NCRDS database. This is a Topo/geo resource which does not belong to any one staff member. The last estimate of the collection was 31,500 done is 1987. A better estimate is currently underway. The main use for the collection is in-house reference and research by PaGS staff.
Collection of reports containing from one to up to several hundred pages and water well files related to the MX Missile Project of the late 1970s and early 1980s. The collection is in 2 4-drawer filing cabinets. The geologic/hydrologic reports are kept at the NBMG, and some years ago, the cultural reports were sent to the Nevada Historical Society. The "Amount" is based on the number of reports and files listed on a typed index that may need revision. MX Files The area covered by the project is part of eastern and central Nevada. The collection is indexed by a typed list of reports and files in a binder, which needs to be reviewed against what is in the collection. The collection may be considered to become part...
Digital data base containing coal analyses for coal beds in West Virginia.Coal quality data base
This collection contains regulatory orders for each of the more than 2000 oil and gas fields in new Mexico. Data included are field creation/discovery data, area the field encompasses, dates when particular land plats were added to or incoprporated into the field, stratigraohic and areal definition of the field, and special rules and regulations governing operations in the field, and dates, rules and restrictions concerning waterflood, enhanced recovery, or unitization of the field. This information has been placed in an Access database by our staff and is also available in hardcopy volumes. There are 61 binders of information encopassing 13481 regulatory orders.
This collection includes unpublished maps in Arizona, which were compiled for uranium resource assessment, conducted in 1980. Collection includes National Uranium Resource Assessment (NURE) compilation project maps. This collection has not yet been cataloged. Please contact the Arizona Geological Survey to inquire about this collection.
Digital in-hole, vertical seismic data in standard SEG-Y format. Some records embedded with GPS coordinates. Digital files of processed data also available. Includes paper records of field observations. Digital data on geologist's PC. Should be centralized.
Hand samples collected from outcrops during field work by survey staff members and students. Hand samples were collected in the filed by various staff members and students. Only partially organized and cataloged in several different digital and paper databases. Metadata content of databases is not uniform. There are approximately 6500 samples cataloged in various paper and digital databases and several thousand samples that have yet to be either organized or cataloged. This collection is stored in trailers (mobile homes) and container units and is currently not fully cataloged, organized or accessible.
The Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology (MBMG) Mining Property File collection was amassed over the years through private and industry donations of engineering and geologic reports, pictures, correspondence, news clippings, and production information. The collection presently contains over 4,400 property-specific files (records). The physical files are organized first by Montana county and then by mine or project name. Files may contain information related to a particular mining claim, a collection of claims, or a mining exploration project. Metadata describing each record includes property name, location (county, historical mining district, township, range and section), georeferences (latitude and longitude), and...
This collection contains 433 analyses of waters obtained from New Mexico water wells.
Website of various Nevada geothermal resource information, which contains 227 geothermal site descriptions and related digital maps, photographs, and information sources. Geothermal Resources of Nevada Two NBMG geologists spend part of their time keeping up this database. Aside from the list of 227 geothermal sites which are linked to site descriptions and maps, the website also contains an interactive map based on NBMG Map 141, "Nevada Geothermal Resources," which shows locations of all significant occurrences of geothermal water in Nevada of which more than 300 are linked to site descriptions and/or databases accessed by mouse clicks; links to the files used to create the interactive map; a list linked to 82 large-scale...

Approximately 500 wireline logs have been digitized into LAS format through at least parts of their interval. About 300 have the entire depth range of the well digitized, including approximately 100 wells across the Illinois basin that represent the deeper penetrations. Wireline logs for subsurface oil fields. This data is in an Oracle database associated with a geologist using Landmark software to access and process the data.
