An investigation was made by the U.S. Geological Survey, under a cooperative agreement with the Texas Water Development Board, to determine the changes in quantity and chemical quality of the base flow of the Nueces River in a 52.2-mile reach beginning at U.S. Highway 90 and extending to the crossing of Farm Road 1025 north of Crystal City. Knowledge of the changes in quantity and chemical quality of base flow is necessary for any evaluation of the effectiveness of the river channel in conveying water released from potential upstream reservoirs. Cass and Marion Counties, an area of 1,325 square miles in northeast Texas, are underlain by the Cypress aquifer which is composed of the Wilcox Group, Carrizo Sand, Reklaw Formation, and Queen City Sand, all of Eocene age. These geologic units are for the most part hydraulically interconnected and generally function as a single aquifer.

There is a need to understand how alteration of physical processes on the Rio Grande River have impacted aquatic biota and their habitats, and a need to predict potential future effects of climate change on biotic resources in order to prescribe research and management activities that will enhance conservation of aquatic species. Rainwater Harvesting and Stormwater Research is a priority research area identified by the Arizona Governor’s Blue Ribbon Panel on Water Sustainability, which recommended that universities take the lead to identify regulatory barriers, cost and benefits, water quality issues and avenues for increasing utilization of stormwater and rainwater at the regional, community and individual property level. The Nature Conservancy (TNC) recently completed an unprecedented assessment of almost 14,000 dams in the Northeastern United States. The Northeast Aquatic Connectivity (NAC) project allows fisheries managers and other interested parties to assess dams at multiple scales based on their potential to benefit anadromous and resident fish species if removed or bypassed. Targeting Grassland Conservation: An Estimate of Land-use Conversion Risk in the Northern Great Plains report
The Souris River watershed spans more than 23,000 square miles (61,000 square kilometers) across Saskatchewan, North Dakota and Manitoba. The funding will support a cross-jurisdictional study led by Ducks Unlimited, Inc., Ducks Unlimited Canada, and Province of Manitoba researchers that will combine current and historic wetland inventories and examine water quality trends across watersheds with varying levels of wetland cover. Non-point source pollution from the Souris River watershed has been known to impact water quality throughout the watershed including the adjoining Assiniboine River and Lake Winnipeg.

Journal Article: Climate drives adaptive genetic responses associated with survival in big sagebrush (Artemisia tridentata)
A genecological approach was used to explore genetic variation for survival in Artemisia tridentata (big sagebrush). Artemisia tridentata is a widespread and foundational shrub species in western North America. This species has become extremely fragmented, to the detriment of dependent wildlife, and efforts to restore it are now a land manage-ment priority. Common- garden experiments were established at three sites with seed-lings from 55 source- populations. Populations included each of the three predominant subspecies, and cytotype variations. Survival was monitored for 5 years to assess dif-ferences in survival between gardens and populations. We found evidence of adap-tive genetic variation for survival. Survival...
