This is the SSURGO soils data from the USDA, NRCS, clipped to the boundary of Bear Valley NWR. Some of the attributes are included in this dataset, but not the entire database which is available from the NRCS. This dataset contains measurements of chemical concentrations of soil samples representing 28 headwater drainage basins completely within the Adirondack Park of New York State (ADK Park), one basin partially in the ADK Park, and one watershed 2 kilometers from the ADK Park boundary. Seven of these watersheds have been sampled 2 or 3 times over periods of 12 to 22 years. Soil samples were collected from pit faces exposed by shoveling. Total mass of organic matter, carbon and nitrogen in the forest floor are also presented for 16 headwater drainage basins in the ADK Park. **Symbology has been adjusted by the Open Space Institute from The Nature Conservancy's original "Geophysical Settings, 2016 Eastern U.S. and Canada" dataset.** The geophysical settings are defined by their physical properties – geology, soil, and elevation - that correspond to differences in the flora and fauna they support. The Gridded SSURGO National Commodity Crop Productivity Index (NCCPI), version 2.0, arrays soils according to their inherent capacity to produce dryland (nonirrigated) commodity crops. Most of the NCCPI criteria relate directly to the ability of soils, landscapes, and climates to foster crop productivity. A few criteria relate to factors that can limit use of the land (e.g., surface boulders). All criteria used in the index affect crop culture and production and are referred to as factors affecting inherent productivity. Higher values represent higher capacity for production. This dataset contains field descriptions of soil profiles and chemical analysis results of soil samples collected in the limed (T16) and reference (T24) watersheds of the Honnedaga Liming Study conducted in the watershed of Honnedaga Lake, in the southwestern portion of the Adirondack State Park in New York State, USA. Field measurements of trees, saplings and seedlings in these watersheds are also included. Data were collected in 2012-2013, prior to aerial application of pelletized limestone to T16 October 1-5, 2013, and in 2014-2018 following treatment. STATSGO depicts information about soil features on or near the surface of the Earth. These data are collected as part of the National Cooperative Soil Survey. This data set is a digital general soil association map developed by the National Cooperative Soil Survey. It consists of a broad based inventory of soils and nonsoil areas that occur in a repeatable pattern on the landscape and that can be cartographically shown at the scale mapped. The soil maps for STATSGO are compiled by generalizing more detailed soil survey maps.
