A 30 meter raster dataset of oil and gas wells. It was generalized and rasterized from proprietary data identified as a disturbance threat to greater sage-grouse habitat. A list of threats to the greater sage-grouse can be found in the following report: "The Greater Sage-Grouse Monitoring Framework" at https://eplanning.blm.gov/epl-front-office/projects/lup/21152/48421/52584/GRSG-FINAL-Monitoring_Framework_20140530.pdf. Data available by request only, not available by download. Request data from point of contact or distribution contact in metadata.

October 2017 Update: WY - On October 27, 2017 the WY state director signed maintenance actions for the Wyoming Sage-Grouse ARMPA, Buffalo RMP, Cody RMP, and Worland RMP that changed WY PHMA boundaries, bringing them into consistency with the Wyoming Core Areas (version 4) from the current Governor's executive order 2015-4. The updated PHMA boundaries were also adopted by the Lander RMP.April 2017 Update: UT - The interagency team reconvened in late 2016 to review State of Utah GRSG populations and the BLM’s 2015 and 2016 wildfire data. Of the ten soft triggers and seven hard triggers evaluated, only one population soft trigger and one population hard trigger have been met, both within the Sheeprocks population area...

A raster dataset of the 30-year normal, annual precipitation values. To represent the amount of annual precipitation that falls within the western United States. It was created to be incorporated into a larger landscape scale geospatial data modeling effort, the Conservation and Restoration Strategy This data was published July 2016.

We integrated 250-m enhanced Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (eMODIS) Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) with land cover, biogeophysical (e.g., soils, topography) and climate data into regression-tree software (Cubist®). We integrated this data to create a time series of spatially explicit predictions of herbaceous annual vegetation cover in sagebrush ecosystems, with an emphasis on annual grasses. Annual grass cover in sagebrush ecosystems is highly variable year-to-year because it is strongly dependent on highly variable weather patterns, particularly precipitation timing and totals. Annual grass cover also reflects past disturbances and management decisions. We produced 17 consecutive...

A raster dataset of the 30-year normal, annual temperature values. To represent annual temperature values within the western United States. It was created to be incorporated into a larger landscape scale geospatial data modeling effort, the Conservation and Restoration Strategy. This data was published July 2016.

A raster dataset of the percent of grass-dominated ecological systems with sagebrush components within a 5km radius moving window. This dataset was made by reclassifying the Sagebrush Cover raster into values of only grass-dominated ecological systems with sagebrush components, and then running a moving window analysis on that raster.

Accurate and consistent estimates of shrubland ecosystem components are crucial to a better understanding of ecosystems condition in arid and semiarid lands. We developed an innovative approach by integrating multiple information to quantify shrubland components as continuous field products within the National Land Cover Database (NLCD). The approach consists of five major parts: field sample collection, high-resolution mapping of shrubland components using WorldView-3 imagery and regression tree models, Landsat 8 radiometric balancing and phenological mosaicking, coarse resolution estimate of shrubland components across a large geographic extent using Landsat 8 phenological mosaics and regression tree models, and...

This dataset provides a near-real-time estimate of 2019 herbaceous annual cover with an emphasis on annual grass (Boyte and Wylie. 2016. Near-real-time cheatgrass percent cover in the Northern Great Basin, USA, 2015. Rangelands 38:278-284.) This estimate was based on remotely sensed enhanced Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (eMODIS) Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) data gathered through June 24, 2019. This is the second iteration of an early estimate of herbaceous annual cover for 2019 over the same geographic area. The previous dataset used eMODIS NDVI data gathered through April 28, 2019 (https://doi.org/10.5066/P9ZEK5M1). The pixel values for this most recent estimate ranged from 0 to100%...

This service map provides a reptile species richness in the U.S. which is derived from the USGS Gap Analysis Program’s (GAP) national reptile ranges dataset. The map represents the total number of reptile species summarized by 12-digit hydrological units (HUCs). Light blue HUCs have the lowest number of species while red HUCs have the highest.

These data represent core areas developed from models predictive of relative abundance for sagebrush obligate species. Cores represent the minimum area necessary to encompass the concomitant proportion of the species total abundance; for example, a 25% core represents minimum area necessary to encompass 25% of the total predicted relative abundance for a species. Spatial models were developed using stop-level Breeding Bird Survey count data (BBS) and spatially-referenced covariates including landcover, climate, topographic, and fire variables measured at scales from 120m to 6.4km. All models were fit using random forests.
Description: This product is a categorical surface of existing vegetation type (EVT). For the purpose of identifying invasive annual grasses we suggest focusing on the following vegetation types: Great Basin & Intermountain Introduced Annual Grassland and Great Basin & Intermountain Ruderal Shrubland. Descriptions of EVT ruderal classes can be found at: https://www.landfire.gov/documents/LANDFIRE_Ruderal_NVC_Groups_Descriptions_CONUS.pdf Species: Annual herbaceous species Spatial extent: Great Basin and Southwest United States Spatial resolution: 30-m pixels Recentness: 2016 Author-suggested use: These data products have been used to model the potential impacts of fire on the landscape, the wildfire...

Description: This product is a continuous estimate of the probability of medusahead occurrence. Species: Medusahead (Taeniatherum caput-medusae) Spatial extent: The western United States; six-level II EPA ecoregions in the arid and semi-arid western United States. Spatial resolution: ~94-m (3-arc-second) pixels Recentness: 2020 Author-suggested use: These model outputs are intended as a resource for prioritizing monitoring and management at moderate to broad spatial scales (e.g. subwatershed) in conjunction with local knowledge and field verification. Predictions of species presence outside the model training areas represent hypotheses for where the species may occur next.

NOTE: A more current version of the Protected Areas Database of the United States (PAD-US) is available: PAD-US 2.1 https://www.sciencebase.gov/catalog/item/5f186a2082cef313ed843257 The Protected Areas Database of the United States (PAD-US) is a geodatabase, managed by U. S. Geological Survey Gap Analysis Project, that illustrates and describes public land ownership, management and other conservation lands, including voluntarily provided privately protected areas. The geodatabase contains four feature classes such as, Marine Protected Areas (MPA) and Easements that each contains uniquely associated attributes. These two feature classes are combined with the PAD-US Fee feature class to provide a full inventory...

Broad-scale alterations of historical fire regimes and vegetation dynamics have occurred in many landscapes in the U.S. through the combined influence of land management practices, fire exclusion, ungulate herbivory, insect and disease outbreaks, climate change, and invasion of non-native plant species. The LANDFIRE Project produces maps of historical fire regimes and vegetation conditions using the disturbance dynamics model VDDT. The LANDFIRE Project also produces maps of current vegetation and measurements of current vegetation departure from simulated historical reference conditions. These maps support fire and landscape management planning outlined in the goals of the National Fire Plan, Federal Wildland Fire...

We developed habitat suitability models for invasive plant species selected by Department of Interior land management agencies. We applied the modeling workflow developed in Young et al. 2020 to species not included in the original case studies. Our methodology balanced trade-offs between developing highly customized models for a few species versus fitting non-specific and generic models for numerous species. We developed a national library of environmental variables known to physiologically limit plant distributions and relied on human input based on natural history knowledge to further narrow the variable set for each species before developing habitat suitability models. We developed models using five algorithms...
