Observations (reduced to detected/not detected) of 45 vertebrate species (seven mammals, seven amphibians, and 31 reptiles) across Southern California pitfall sampling projects conducted between 1995 through 2015. Habitat patch locations of every pitfall sampling project presented in a shapefile. Habitat patches were measured based on the size when pitfall sampling began within each. Sampling projects within the same geographic area may have different sized patches based on date of project sampling and if patch erosion occurred. A matrix of whether each species was expected within each habitat patch's species pool based on range maps and published records is also included. These data support the following publication:...

This dataset consists of 65 magnetotelluric (MT) stations collected in 2015 near Mountain Pass, California. The U.S. Geological Survey acquired these data to create a regional conductivity model near the Mountain Pass mine. This work is in support of characterizing mineral deposits.

This vector dataset consists of 2 polygon shapefiles representing the groundwater discharge areas (GDA) and evapotranspiration (ET) units for the Amargosa Wild and Scenic River and contributing areas. GDAs were delineated by visual interpretation and subdivided into ET units of moist soil, open water, and vegetated areas.

Whole-rock and calcite geochemical data are reported for twelve carbonatite samples collected from the Bear Lodge alkaline complex, Wyoming and from the Mountain Pass mine, California. Calcite geochemical data was collected using electron microprobe and laser ablation inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) analyses. Reported whole-rock data was measured by inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES), inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), ion selective electrode-fluoride (ISE-F), and wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence (WDXRF). Geochemical data are presented in downloadable .csv files. Spatial data of sample collection sites are provided as polygons in...

This item contains linework that represents fault rupture and ground deformation features interpreted from field-based maps and observations, as well as airborne imagery, lidar, and geodetic imagery products. Provisional maps of fault rupture and ground deformation are composed of a “mashup” of linework from these various sources, obtained and compiled as of December, 2019. If more than one linework representation exists for a segment of the fault rupture, linework showing the most rupture detail or best location accuracy, based on the judgment of the compiler, is preserved. On provisional maps, less than 25% of the linework is derived from high-resolution optical imagery and detailed field mapping. Because line...

The U.S. Army Fort Irwin National Training Center (NTC), approximately 35 mi north-northeast of Barstow, California, covers approximately 1,177 square miles, and is comprised of ten groundwater basins, three of which have been subdivided into subbasins on the basis of additional hydrologic testing. Since the early 1990s, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has been studying water resources issues at Fort Irwin. One issue of concern is the potential effect of groundwater development resulting from planned training expansion and infrastructure at the NTC on natural springs and seeps, an important water source for wildlife. In 2010, the USGS entered into cooperative agreements with the U.S. Army to complete studies of...

Hi-Desert Water District (HDWD) is constructing a wastewater treatment plant as part of a groundwater replenishment and reuse project (GRRP) in the east hydrogeologic unit (Nishikawa, and others, 2003) of the Warren Valley Basin (7-012) (California Department of Water Resources, 2016) in Yucca Valley, CA. The HDWD plans to use reclaimed wastewater for managed aquifer recharge by spreading treated wastewater into unlined ponds at the GRRP facility. Reclaimed wastewater will percolate through the unsaturated alluvium by gravity drainage through the unsaturated zone to the water table located about 370 feet (ft) below land surface (bls). As part of the cooperative efforts between the HDWD and the USGS, the electrical...
