This data release contains data used in an associated publication: Petrakis, R.E., Norman, L.M., Vaughn, K., Pritzlaff, R., Weaver, C., Rader, A., and Pulliam, H.R., 2021, Hierarchical Clustering for Paired Watershed Experiments: Case Study in Southeastern Arizona, U.S.A.: Water, v. 13, no. 21, p. 2955, https://doi.org/10.3390/w13212955. The overarching effects and benefits of land management decisions, such as through watershed restoration, are often not fully understood due to a lacking control within an experimental design. This can be addressed through the application of a paired watershed approach, allowing for comparison between treatment and control watersheds. We developed and applied a statistic-based...
This data release presents beach topography and nearshore bathymetry data from repeated surveys in northern Monterey Bay, California to document changes in shoreline position and coastal morphology as they relate to episodic (storms), seasonal, and interannual and longer (e.g. El Niño) processes. The ongoing monitoring program was initiated in October 2014 with semi-annual surveys performed in late summer (September or October) and Spring (March). Nearshore bathymetry and topography data were collected along a series of shore-perpendicular transects spaced primarily at 50-250 m intervals between Santa Cruz and Moss Landing, California (fig. 1). The transects were located along sandy stretches of the coastline...

This data contains maximum model-derived ocean currents (in meters per second) for the sea-level rise (SLR) and storm condition indicated. The Coastal Storm Modeling System (CoSMoS) makes detailed predictions (meter-scale) over large geographic scales (100s of kilometers) of storm-induced coastal flooding and erosion for both current and future sea-level rise (SLR) scenarios. Projections for CoSMoS v3.1 in Central California include flood-hazard information for the coast from Pt. Conception to the Golden Gate bridge. Outputs include SLR scenarios of 0.0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, and 5.0 meters; storm scenarios include background conditions (astronomic spring tide and average atmospheric conditions)...

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are reported for water samples collected from the San Lorenzo River water during the rainy seasons from 2015 to 2016. Samples were collected during 2-, 5- and close to 10 year flood events.
This data release is currently being revised and is temporarily unavailable. Please contact rhkent@usgs.gov with any immediate requests. The U.S. Geological Survey Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment-Priority Basin Project (USGS GAMA-PBP) collected samples to be analyzed for per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from domestic and public supply wells from May 2019 to September 2020. The datasets presented here include identification of the 28 PFAS constituents monitored by the project, Identification and brief characterization of the 211 GAMA-PBP wells for which samples were analyzed for PFAS during the study period, and analytical results for those groundwater samples, along with results for quality...

Groundwater budgets were compiled from 2002 to 2012 and 2020 for the Sierra Vista Subwatershed for the Upper San Pedro Partnership. In 2012, the annual groundwater budget was estimated to be about -5,000 acre-ft per year (negative values indicate a deficit, where more water is removed from the system than is being returned; positive values indicate a surplus, where more water is entering the system than is being removed). In 2020 the Sierra Vista Subwatershed groundwater budget deficit has decreased to about -3,600 acre-ft per year. This is the smallest deficit calculated since the Upper San Pedro Partnership started to track the groundwater budget beginning in 2002. The total water budget uncertainty is estimated...

This part of DS 781 presents data for the acoustic-backscatter map of Offshore of Aptos map area, California. Backscatter data are provided as two separate grids depending on mapping system and processing method. This metadata file refers to the data included in "BackscatterB_EM300_OffshoreAptos.zip," which is accessible from https://doi.org/10.5066/F7K35RQB. LUCAS-W is a scenario-based simulation model of coupled land use change and associated water demand for California's Central Coast region from 2001-2061. The model is a verison of the LUCAS model, which uses the SyncroSim software framework (Software documentation available at http://doc.syncrosim.com/index.php?title=Reference_Guide), that contains a new coupling with statistical software R (https://www.r-project.org/) to enable dynamic feedbacks between land-use change, resulting water demand, and water availability. The model was parameterized with land-use change and water use empirically estimated from county-scale historic data, as well as results from dozens of local agencies’ groundwater modeling efforts....

This dataset contains projections for Monterey County. CoSMoS makes detailed predictions (meter-scale) over large geographic scales (100s of kilometers) of storm-induced coastal flooding and erosion for both current and future sea-level rise (SLR) scenarios. CoSMoS v3.1 for Central California shows projections for future climate scenarios (sea-level rise and storms) to provide emergency responders and coastal planners with critical storm-hazards information that can be used to increase public safety, mitigate physical damages, and more effectively manage and allocate resources within complex coastal settings. Data for Central California covers the coastline from Pt. Conception to Golden Gate Bridge. Methods and...
