The U.S. Geological Survey, Western Ecological Research Center (USGS-WERC) was requested by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) to create a database for marine birds of the California Current System (CCS) that would allow quantification and species ranking regarding vulnerability to offshore wind energy infrastructure (OWEI). This was needed so that resource managers could evaluate potential impacts associated with siting and construction of OWEI within the California Current System section of the Pacific Offshore Continental Shelf, including California, Oregon, and Washington. Along with its accompanying Open File Report (OFR), this comprehensive database can be used (and modified or updated) to quantify...

These data are part of the Gulf Watch Alaska (GWA) long-term monitoring program, nearshore monitoring component. The dataset is comprised of six comma separated values (.csv) file exported from a relational database. The data consist of 1) summer marine bird and mammal densities, 2) winter marine bird and mammal densities, 3) summer marine bird and mammal observations, 4) winter marine bird and mammal observations, 5) summer marine bird and mammal survey strip transects, and 6) winter marine bird and mammal survey strip transects. Distribution of Alcid habitat in coastal British Columbia showing relative abundance (RA) by season and overall relative importance (RI). RI is based on project region and not on the province as a whole. British Columbia has been collecting coastal resource data in a systematic and synoptic manner since 1979. Resource information is collected using peer-reviewed provincial Resource Information Standards Committee which include standards for data management and analysis
This metadata document describes the data contained in the "Argos Raw Data" (Child Item 2) of this data release. This data release contains all data collected by the Argos System from 19 satellite transmitters attached to Northern Fulmars on their breeding range in the Bering Sea and northern Gulf of Alaska, 2001-2006. Five data files are included in the "Argos Raw Data" (Child Item 2) of this data release. Two data files (with identical content) contain the raw Argos DIAG (Diagnostic) data, one in the legacy verbose ASCII format and one in a tabular Comma Separate Value (CSV) format. Two other data files (with identical content) contain the raw Argos DS (Dispose) data, one in the legacy verbose ASCII format and...

This metadata document describes the data contained in the "Argos Processed Data" (Child Item 1) of this data release. This data release contains all data collected by the Argos System from 19 satellite transmitters attached to Northern Fulmars on their breeding range in the Bering Sea and northern Gulf of Alaska, 2001-2006. The raw data were processed to accomplish two goals: flag implausible location estimates and decode raw sensor data. Three Comma Separate Value (CSV) tables are included in the "Argos Processed Data" (Child Item 1) of this data release: 1) the "diag_filteredLocations" table contains one record for every Argos location estimate collected, accompanied by a binary flag that denotes an algorithm's...

This database is a compilation of marine mammal and seabird information collected along the Pacific coast of the United States and U.S. territories in the Pacific from surveys that were solicited among regional research communities and persons. Information from standardized surveys was gathered from 2015 to 2018 and includes programs and researchers who collected information regarding seabirds since 1960. These data support the following publication: Adams, J., Lafferty, K.D., Kelsey, E.C., and Johnston, C.A. 2019. Synopsis of Research Programs that can Provide Baseline and Monitoring Information for Offshore Energy Activities in the Pacific Region: Seabird and Marine Mammal Surveys in the Pacific Region. Data set is a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet containing observations of marbled murrelet activity in forest sites in the Oregon Coast Range. Data were collected in 1994, 1996 and 1997.
Distribution of Marbeled Murrelet habitat in coastal British Columbia showing relative abundance (RA) by season and overall relative importance (RI). RI is based on project region and not on the province as a whole. British Columbia has been collecting coastal resource data in a systematic and synoptic manner since 1979. Resource information is collected using peer-reviewed provincial Resource Information Standards Committee which include standards for data management and analysis
This data release includes 2 child items with tracking data for Tufted Puffins, a seabird species that is found only in coastal and offshore areas of the North Pacific Ocean. Child Item 1: "Argos Satellite Tracking Data for Tufted Puffins (Fratercula cirrhata) - Processed Data" Quality-controlled data collected from Argos satellite transmitters. Child Item 2: "Argos Satellite Tracking Data for Tufted Puffins (Fratercula cirrhata) - Raw Data" All raw data collected from Argos satellite transmitters, provided for completeness of the archive. The "Argos Processed Data" (Child Item 1) are better suited for most analytical purposes.
Distribution of unspecified pelagic bird species habitat in coastal British Columbia showing relative abundance (RA) by season and overall relative importance (RI). RI is based on project region and not on the province as a whole. British Columbia has been collecting coastal resource data in a systematic and synoptic manner since 1979. Resource information is collected using peer-reviewed provincial Resource Information Standards Committee which include standards for data management and analysis.
Distribution of dabbling duck species habitat in coastal British Columbia showing relative abundance (RA) by season and overall relative importance (RI). RI is based on project region and not on the province as a whole. British Columbia has been collecting coastal resource data in a systematic and synoptic manner since 1979. Resource information is collected using peer-reviewed provincial Resource Information Standards Committee which include standards for data management and analysis
This data release includes 2 child items with tracking data for Northern Fulmars, a seabird species that breeds throughout northern ocean regions and spends the winter at-sea in the northern hemisphere. Child Item 1: "Argos Satellite Tracking Data for Northern Fulmars (Fulmarus glacialis) - Processed Data" Quality-controlled data collected from Argos satellite transmitters. Child Item 2: "Argos Satellite Tracking Data for Northern Fulmars (Fulmarus glacialis) - Raw Data" All raw data collected from Argos satellite transmitters, provided for completeness of the archive. This is a child item of the USGS Data Release: https://doi.org/10.5066/F7K072DR. These data describe marine bird and mammal surveys conducted in glacial fjords of coastal Alaska. Data were collected to document the at-sea distribution and abundance of marine birds and mammals in Glacier Bay National Park (2004), Prince William Sound (2010), Icy Bay (2011) and Yakutat Bay (2011). Following standard US Fish and Wildlife protocols for strip surveys.
These data are daily summary checklists of all bird species observed at U.S. Geological Survey, Alaska Science Center (ASC) field camps. Data include species observation details such as observers, dates, location, and number of individuals seen. Field camps were located in Northern, Western, Interior, Southwest, Southcentral, and Southeast Alaska, Baja California Sur Mexico, and northern Russia. The data are organized in eight child items (one for each region), each with checklists in a tabular format. This data release has been SUPERSEDED. No data are provided here. Data from HABs sampling data releases have been appended to U.S. Geological Survey data release: https://doi.org/10.5066/P9MLNP9H. This data set is comprised of three tables with results of algal toxin screening for saxitoxin and domoic acid. We used enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) to screen seabirds in the Bering and Chukchi Seas, 2017.

Since 2017, U.S. Geological Survey, Western Ecological Research Center (USGS WERC) partnered with California State Parks to continue long-term, annual at-sea surveys to estimate at-sea abundance and juvenile (i.e. hatch-year) productivity of Marbled Murrelets (Brachyramphus marmoratus) in U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Conservation Zone 6 (central California: San Francisco Bay to Monterey Bay). Marbled Murrelets have been listed as Endangered by the State of California and Threatened by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service since 1992. Marbled Murrelets have been surveyed at sea off central California since 1995 (Becker et al. 1997), and standardized surveys to estimate abundance and productivity have been conducted...
