This project evaluated the potential impacts of storm surges and relative sea level rise on nesting geese and eider species that commonly breed on the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta (Y-K Delta). Habitat suitability maps for breeding waterbirds were developed to identify current waterbird breeding habitat and distributions. Short-term climate change impacts were assessed by comparing nest densities in relation to magnitude of storms that occurred in the prior fall from 2000-2013. Additionally, nest densities were modeled using random forests in relation to the time-integrated flood index (e.g., a storm specific measure accounting for both water depth and duration of flooding) for four modeled storms (2005, 2006, 2009, and...

A high spatial resolution storm surge model was developed for the YK Delta area to assess biological impacts of storm surges under current and future climates. Storm surges are expected to be more frequent and more severe in the YK Delta area due to climate change and sea level rise. The biological impacts in the YK Delta due to the changed storm surges could be extreme. The model was assessed with respect to measured water level data at the coast and, where available, spatial extent of inundation, for 6 storms from the period 1992 to 2011. In total, inundation projections from 9 historical storms (5 from the assessment + 4 others) were developed. For each storm, an spatial inundation index (time-integral of water...

This bathymetric dataset provides an update to the stage-storage relation for Little Rock Reservoir located in the Angeles National Forest, California. Bathymetric data was collected using a multibeam echo sounder to provide near-complete coverage and was merged with U.S. Geological Survey 3D Elevation Project lidar to compute a digital elevation model (DEM) of the reservoir and surrounding watershed. The DEM was used to computed storage and surface area for a range of stage elevations. Results show that the mean cross-spillway elevation was 3273 feet above the North American Vertical Datum 1988 (NAVD88) and the mean dam crest elevation was 3277 feet (NAVD88). At the spillway elevation the storage was 3335.8 acre-feet...

TEM_50K contains Terrestrial Ecosystem Mapping (TEM) polygons with key and amalgamated (concatenated) attributes derived from the RISC (Resource Inventory Standards Committee) standard attributes completed at a scale of 1:50,000 or smaller (i.e. 1:100,000). TEM divides the landscape into units according to a variety of ecological features including climate, physiography, surficial material, bedrock geology, soils and vegetation. TEM methods include manual air photo interpretation supported by selective field checking. This layer is derived from the STE_TEI_ATTRIBUTE_POLYS_SP layer by filtering on the PROJECT_TYPE and PROJECT_MAP_SCALE attributes. By accessing this dataset you agree to the Province's license available...

Natural and anthropogenic contaminants, pathogens, and viruses are found in soils and sediments throughout the United States. Enhanced dispersion and concentration of these environmental health stressors in coastal regions can result from sea level rise and storm-derived disturbances. The combination of existing environmental health stressors and those mobilized by natural or anthropogenic disasters could adversely impact the health and resilience of coastal communities and ecosystems. This dataset displays the exposure potential to environmental health stressors in the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge (EBFNWR), which spans over Great Bay, Little Egg Harbor, and Barnegat Bay in New Jersey, USA. Exposure...

Agriculture, though important to economic development and food security, is a source of increased sediment, nutrient, and pesticide runoff. Threats from sedimentation and pollution from inland sources were modeled for about 150 watersheds discharging along the Mesoamerican reef, and associated sediment plumes estimated.

A cvs file containing field datasets used to develop regression models to predict sediment and nutrient retention services for stream within the Difficult Run watershed. Field measurements of floodplain deposition and bank erosion were provided in previously published datasets from Hupp et al. (2013) and Gellis et al. (2017). At each field site 3-5 nearby cross-sections from the Toolbox where used to represent the floodplain and streambank sampling locations at the field sites. Metrics derived from the Toolbox are provided in this data table.

Using basins derived from a hydrologically-corrected 30m resolution DEM as a unit for summary statistics, we provide a series of indicators focused on land-based sources fo threat within the US Virgin Islands. This includes indicators of a) the relative vulnerability of the land to erosion (based on slope, precipitation and soil erodibility); b) the relative erosion potential (REP) of the land, based on the relative vulnerability of the land, coupled with the current land cover type; c) the sediment delivery rate for each basin (percentage of eroded which reaches the river mouth); d) estimated sediment delivery for the basin, given current land use; e) the road density within the basin, and f) indicators of how...

Data were collected in August, 2020 to support development of a bathymetric map for Larimore Dam in Grand Forks County, North Dakota. Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) surveying equipment was used in static and real-time kinematic (RTK) mode to establish a local reference mark and check-in/check-out point, to collect water surface elevations, and to collect topographic points along established data collection transects. Topographic points were collected on land, in water too shallow for boating, and in areas of the lake where thick aquatic vegetation prohibited use of an echosounder and transducer. In areas of the lake deep enough for boating and where aquatic vegetation was not present, depth data was collected...

This dataset includes the audio-magnetotelluric (AMT) sounding data collected in 2009 in and near the San Luis Basin, New Mexico. The U.S. Geological Survey conducted a series of multidisciplinary studies, including AMT surveys, in the San Luis Basin to improve understanding of the hydrogeology of the Santa Fe Group and the nature of the sedimentary deposits comprising the principal groundwater aquifers of the Rio Grande rift. The shallow unconfined and the deeper confined Santa Fe Group aquifers in the San Luis Basin are the main sources of municipal water for the region. The population of the San Luis Basin region is growing rapidly and water shortfalls could have serious consequences. Future growth and land management...

Interactions between geomorphic processes at multiple scales shape the distributions of habitats, species, and life stages that a river can support. Understanding these hierarchical processes may be helpful for proactive monitoring and restoration of native Western Brook Lamprey (Lampetra richardsoni) and Pacific Lamprey (Entosphenus tridentatus) in Pacific Northwest rivers. The processes creating thick, fine-grained sediment deposits that lamprey larvae rely on as rearing habitat were assessed in part through field sampling in the Umpqua River basin, southwestern Oregon, USA. Local factors, such as substrate, boulders, wood, and water, that control sediment erosion and deposition, affecting larval lamprey habitat,...

Degradation of water quality is the major health concern for lakes and reservoirs in the central regions of the United States as a result of heavily devoted agricultural production. A vital key to the development of a reservoir management strategy is to identify nutrient loading that describes associated water quality conditions in reservoirs. This study integrated AnnAGNPS watershed and BATHTUB lake models to simulate actual lake water quality conditions of Cheney Reservoir, KS, and demonstrated the use of the coupled model for simulating lake response to changes in different watershed land use and management scenarios. The calibrated current-conditions model simulated in-lake reductions as much as 52% for TN,...

These data were compiled to perform analyses of hydrologic change, changes in sediment transport, and channel change within Moenkopi Wash, Arizona. Objective(s) of our study were to quantify the magnitude and timing of changes in hydrology, sediment transport, and channel form within Moenkopi Wash and to determine the downstream effects of those changes on sediment delivery downstream to the Little Colorado River, and the Colorado River. These data represent instantaneous discharge records, suspended-sediment sample records, topographic survey data, historical aerial imagery, and channel polygons and centerlines mapped on the historical imagery. Instantaneous discharge records in this study began in 1926 and extend...
